Course Guide High Priority

You must be 21 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

You will be assigned to a position on the course where you will either be directing the runners to turn or to monitor the intersection for cars trying to get on the course. You will be advised of the location you are assigned to prior to the event and you will report directly there race morning. A race official will drive the course to give you a safety vest, hand /foot warmers as necessary, a volunteer giveaway and a bracelet for entry to the race after party.
There will be a trial walker who will let you know when the last runner has passed and you are done at your location.

***Please note that it is a slightly different course this year which will start on River Ave and end at the new Brewery on Main Street and will travel in the opposite direction than last year. If you volunteered in the past I will make every effort to place you in the same or similar location***

Split Caller High Priority

You must be 21 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 5 more volunteers needed.

Details

You will be assigned to a mile split along the course. You will be advised of the location you are assigned to prior to the event and you will report directly there race morning. When you arrive at your assigned mile mark, the tripod and mile markers should already be in place. At the start of the race, the clocks will be started by a race official and will then be dropped off prior to the runners getting to your location.

Prior to the start of the race, a race official will drive the course to give you a safety vest, hand /foot warmers as necessary, a volunteer giveaway and a bracelet for entry to the race after party.

After the last runner has passed, there will be a trail car to pick up the clock and you will be done with your task. There will also be a trial walker.

Water Stop Medium Priority

You must be 12 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

You will be assigned to one of 3 water stops along the course. You will be responsible for pouring water or gatorade into cups, handing it out to the participants, replenishing empty cups as needed and cleaning up the area once finished. You will be provided with a table, water, cups, latex gloves, garbage bags and receptacles. You will be advised of the location you are assigned to prior to the event and you will report directly there race morning. Prior to the start of the race, a race official will drive the course to give you a safety vest, hand /foot warmers as necessary, a volunteer giveaway and a bracelet for entry to the race after party.

A trail walker, who walks behind the past participant, will let you know when you are done

This volunteer task is full.

Details

You will follow the last runner out on the course who will be finishing the race in the 2 hour and 15 minute time limit until they finish. You will also inform all of the volunteers that you are following the last participant and that they free to go once you have passed by them.

You will check in at the tent at 7:45 at the Brewery for instructions and will be given hand and foot warmers if necessary, a safety vest, map, a bracelet for entry to the post race party and volunteer giveaway.

Lead Bike Medium Priority

You must be 21 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

You will lead the runners along the course. Once the top finishers are done you go back and help monitor the runners along the course. **Lead bike experience necessary. There will be a trail walker assigned to walk past the last runner letting the volunteers know they are done.

Race Day at Brewery

Clean Up High Priority

You must be 21 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

You will help to clean up in and around the tent areas at the Brewery. This includes the refreshment area, and helping to pack up the race day supplies and equipment and put them on the truck.

Refreshment Volunteer Medium Priority

You must be 21 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

You will be helping to set up, distribute and clean up refreshments for the race.

This task is password protected as volunteers for this task are limited and is reserved for volunteers who have done this task previously. However, if you are dedicated to helping at this task during the event (ie. are not just volunteering to get into the party) then please email me.

Baggage check Medium Priority

You must be 21 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Previous experience preferred.
You will help check runners bags before the race and/or help hand them back to them after the race. While the race is taking place you will help to sort and organize the baggage check area.

The 7-8 shift it is only for those running or who will be assigned to another task after 8am. (ie. volunteering for one hour is not sufficient to gain party entry if you are not running)

Finish Line Tasks

Finisher medals Medium Priority

Details

You will help unwrap and set up the finisher medals and then distribute them to the runners after they cross the finish line which is located at the intersection of River Ave and Weeks Street.
You will check in with me at the tent at the Brewery at 7:30 where I will give you hand and foot warmers if necessary, a volunteer giveaway and a bracelet to the after party if you are over the age of 21. This job is complete when the last runner crosses the finish line at 10:30am

Start and Finish Water Medium Priority

Details

You will check in with me at the tent at 7:15 where I will give you hand and foot warmers if necessary, a volunteer giveaway and a bracelet to the after party if you are over 21.
You will set up the water for the runners at the start line.
After the race starts at 8:15am, clean up the remaining cups on the table and leave the garbage and leftover water and cups there. Our crew will break down the table.
You will then go to the finish line where there will be another table set where you will do the same thing as at the start. We expect the first runner to arrive there not long after 9:00am and the last runner will finish by 10:30 as there is a 2 hour and 15-minute time limit. At that time you can clean up the area and go to the Brewery, if you are over age 21, for the after party.

You will help distribute bibs and shirts to race participants at the Sayville Running Company store in Sayville during one or more shifts. Previous experience is preferred but not required. You can sign up for more than one shift, and on more than one day. If you don't fit into a time slot please indicate in the question section.
