An essential role in the safety and logistics chain, our course sweepers will be the final finishers on the day. Our 20-mile course is open for 4 hours and 57 minutes. Most notably, this means that participants in the 20-mile event must maintain a 14:53/mile pace. Course sweepers will be responsible for staying behind the final 20-mile run participants, staying in contact with race officials at the finish line concerning their current position, and any on-course issues while arriving.
On the return trip of the out-and-back course, course sweepers will be responsible for communicating to each aid station that they pass that they are the final participant and that the aid station is okay to break down.
Course sweepers should be comfortable with one of two options for their duties:
- Run/walk for 10 miles (due to the nature of the 20-mile course, they traverse the 10-mile out-and-back twice, the sweeper only heads out for the second trip!)
- Slowly bicycle for 10 miles
All volunteers will receive a free entry to one of select future CRC-sponsored races.
