New Course for 2021

Due to continued construction at Railroad Bridge Park we are unable to use Railroad Bridge Park as our start / finish line.  On April 24, 2021 Railroad Bridge Run is going to start / 1inish 1 mile west of Railroad Bridge at the intersection of Banana Way and the Olympic Discovery Trail off of Business Park Look in Carlsborg, WA. Both the 5K and 10K routes will head east and cross over Railroad Bridge. We are working with several business on Business Park Loop to ensure that there will be ample onsite parking. The weeks leading up to the event we will be emailing more information in regards to race information and parking.

Join us in the 2nd of 5 races in the 2020 Run the Peninsula Road Race Series, Railroad Bridge 5K / 10K. The 5K and 10K will be an out and back on the Olympic Discovery Trail. 

The 5K and 10K will start at 9:30 am Saturday, April 24th on Banana Way & ODT off of Business Park Loop.

COVID-19 Activity Operations Requirements

Covid-19 Activity Operations Requirements for the Onsite Railroad Bridge Run - Below are the requirements if we are able to hold an onsite - in-person event for the Railroad Bridge Run on April 24, 2021. As we learn more information we will be sure to share it with all of our participants. 

  • All participants have been offered a virtual option for the event, for participants who would like to participate on their own and not share a common course with other participants and would prefer a virtual course of their own choosing. Participants have been emailed several times to switch to virtual event at no additional cost.
  • All pre-registration has occur online. There will be NO same day in-person registration is allowed.
  • There will be staggered bib pick-up times to reduce congregation and will ensure 6-foot distancing in any cue lines. In addition there will be a plastic protection barrier between the participant and the volunteer distributing the bib.
  • We will have a rolling start line (participants will have a pre-assigned starting window) with no more than 2 people leaving every 15 seconds and no more than 200 total participants starting per hour. There will be no more than 3 consecutive hours of starting waves on race day. Waves will be sequenced by pace with faster racers going first, then working towards the slower racers to reduce likelihood for congestion or passing on the course. The starting area will be limited to no more than 50 participants at any time awaiting their staggered starts (there is plenty of space for social distancing.) Participants waiting for their start time will maintain at least six feet of distance from all other people and wear face coverings until their race begins. Cones will be used to assume 6’ of social distancing at all times. Additional participants must wait in their vehicles or away from the course until their start time approaches.
  • We will be limiting the number of employees and volunteers that are necessary to supervise the event,. These persons are not considered “participants” for the sake of calculating starting waves and are allowed as needed. Employees and volunteers will wear facial coverings and maintain physical distance in compliance with current guidelines.
  • Participants will make an effort to remain 6 feet from other participants on the course as much as possible. If participants need to pass another participant they will pass them in a manner that is safe and makes the moment of passage as brief as reasonably possible. Similarly if a participant is being passed that participant must allow for passing such that distance between participants can be achieved in as brief amount of time as reasonably possible.
  • Spectators are not allowed. However, participants under 18 would require a parent / guardian to be in attendance.  The support person must always remain at least 6 feet away from all people aside from their participant and may not visit the start or finish to avoid congestion or crowding in these areas.
  • There will be no congregation of more than 5 people allowed at the turn around, hydration and nutrition stations at any one time. Participants will obtain hydration and nutrition supplies and then proceed. Hydration and nutrition station crews will maintain 6 foot separation from participants, and each other at all times as much as reasonably possible and wear facial coverings.
  • There will be no congregation allowed at the activity start or finish area. Participants will leave the activity area when finished. There will be no awards ceremonies or after party activities allowed in the starting / finishing area.
  • There will be a Volunteer Run the Peninsula Information table with information about 2021 events and swag for purchase. There will be a plastic protection barrier between the participant and the volunteer in charge of the information table. The volunteer and participants will remain 6’ in distance at all times.
  • Lines at portable toilets will be managed such that there is at least 6 foot of distance between all participants waiting in lines. The race will provide hand sanitizer at all restroom stations.
  • Port Angeles Marathon Association will retain registration data for 30 days after the activity in order to aid possible contact tracing.
  • PPE provided for all employees and volunteers.  Cloth or medical masks will be worn.  Gloves will be worn by employees and volunteers when interacting with participants or equipment.
  • Volunteers, riders and rider helpers will be screened prior to entry the facility.
    • Before loading people on bus participants will be asked the following questions
    • Do you have any of these symptoms that are not caused by another condition?
      • Fever or chills
      • Cough
      • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
      • Fatigue
      • Muscle or body aches
      • Headache
      • Recent loss of taste or smell
    •  Within the past 14 days, have you had contact with anyone that you know had COVID-19 or COVID-like symptoms? Contact is being 6 feet (2 meters) or closer for more than 15 minutes with a person, or having direct contact with fluids from a person with COVID-19 (for example, being coughed or sneezed on).
    • Have you had a positive COVID-19 test for active virus in the past 10 days?
    • Within the past 14 days, has a public health or medical professional told you to self-quarantine?
  •  We will discourage all carpooling to the starting area (from people not in the same household). 
  • We will encourage participants to be dropped off at the starting area.
  • For participants that cannot be dropped off participants will park and be advised to stay in their car until their assigned starting time.
