Description
The Community Wellness Project of Jefferson County, WA is sponsoring its 2nd wellness event, now called Spring into Wellness Challenge! Originally titled WE Feed Kids in 2019, Spring into Wellness has been redesigned to allow more participation across the county, while maintaining the original dual purpose of 1) inspiring our community to health while 2) raising funds for healthy food through school gardens in the Jefferson County School Districts - Chimacum, Port Townsend, Quilcene and Brinnon, and for students of Emburis Pre and Primary School in Monduli, Tanzania. Instead of just one day, this is now a month-long event, running April 1 - April 30!
To get involved in the Spring into Wellness Challenge, you will choose a healthy activity - walking, running, playing a team sport, rowing, paddling, dancing, bicycling, sailing, planks, sit ups, toe raises... the sky's the limit! Then you will set a goal for how much of this activity you want to complete in the month of April (to walk a 5k, to run 40 miles or to climb a mountain once or 4x) and you will register a team on the Spring into Wellness website.
Next, the fun part, you invite friends to join your team. As team members join, each will bring their own goal and you, the team captain, will raise the overall team goal until your team is filled with as many members as you like. Perhaps your Port Townsend Paddlers will set an overall goal of paddle-boarding 300 miles in April! You may add teammates as late as you like through March/April. Each team member will be able to share the event on social media, asking for their friends to sponsor their challenge. The funds you raise together through registration and sponsorships will support healthy foods and gardens in our schools. Beginning April 1 you will begin to meet your challenge. You have through April 30th to get there!
This is a great opportunity for groups of any kind to work together towards a common goal of healthy living and care for our local kids who are facing more hunger in our county than we've seen in decades. Sports teams, clubs of any kind, church congregations, businesses, book groups, non-profits, or just groups of friends may form a team. And the great thing is, you don't have to all live in the same area! You are welcome to invite friends from all over to join or sponsor your team. Each team member will record and post their own distance, time, or whatever it is they are tracking to improve their health this spring. And sponsors from around the country or world will be inspired by our efforts.
At the end of April, we will all share accomplishments, photos, videos, etc. and celebrate our collective good health! A friendly competition will celebrate winning fundraising teams and exceptional goals met by teams and individuals.
The mission of The Community Wellness Project is to cultivate the health, resilience, and well-being of students & families in Jefferson County, Washington jccwp.org
