5k Course

CHECK BACK IN AUGUST TO SEE WHAT COVID RESTRICTIONS MAY NEED TO BE IMPLEMENTED TO MAINTAIN IN-PERSON VENUE!

Just 45 minutes south of Tucson, Arizona, this awesome course of well-maintained pavement with adjacent grass begins at a cool 4300' elevation and gains 230' before participants navigate a large sweeping mid-turnaround point to be rewarded with a fast downhill finish!

Shortly after leaving I-10 at Exit 297 and heading south, participants will be guided to parking and staging via signs and volunteers.  Vehicles with multiple participants from same household  qualify for PRIMIER PARKING close to Check-in, Registration Tables, Info Boards, Portable Bathrooms, the Start/Finish Line, Participant Water and Post-Nutrition Station, and the Awards /Prize Corral. Handicapped parking and bathrooms are available at the staging area, Community Bible Church - 714 S. J6 Ranch Road, Benson, Arizona.

The Start / Finish Line setup provided by On Your Left Fitness and Timing is approximately 500' south of the Staging Area .

With the Whetstone Mountains straight ahead, only the right (west) lane will be used by participants. The first 1/2 mile is nearly flat with gentle rolling pavement that will help runners set their pace before starting the gradual 230' elevation gain to the mid-point turn-around.  ON THIS FIRST HALF UPGRADE, WHEELED ATHLETES KEEP CLOSE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD so anyone passing can move toward the center of the designated lane in order to negotiate around the slower participant.

After executing the sweeping turnaround, participants return to the dedicated race lane where the view changes to overlook the valley and the Rincon / Catalina Mountains.  ON THIS FAST DOWNHILL SECOND HALF, PARTICIPANTS KEEP THEIR RIGHT SIDE CLOSE TO THE YELLOW LINE and, again, go toward the center to pass a slower participant.

As runners and walkers are approaching their first mile of the upgrade, self-propelled athletes on wheels may already be heading downhill with an escort toward the finish line.  Course Marshals will monitor progress of participants and will implement contingency plans as needed to maintain a safe buffer.

Mile markers will be in place along the course and 100' advanced notice of water stations will be provided.  Tables at the Fluid Station, located approximately 1 mile from the Start Line,  will provide 8 oz. bottled water while supplies last to participants traveling in both directions - BEST TO CARRY OWN SUPPLY.   Multiple trash cans will be conveniently placed - AIM WELL.  Thanks in advance for keeping the area clean so we will be invited back again!

If participants are in need of help along the course, volunteers at all blocked cross roads will be able to immediately contact the First Aid Coordinator for help. The First-Aid Coordinator  has assembled both a mobile team and a stationary team at the staging area to provide assistance.

First, Second, Third Place Awards will be announced as soon as verified by timer, with winners picking up prizes at no contact tables.  Age Category winners will be announced at the end of each race.
