Frequently Asked Questions

I am NOT a runner, can I still participate?  Don’t sweat it!  We want everyone to be included!  We welcome runners of all levels and whether you participate in-person, virtually, or as part of the Veggie Adventure; you can run, walk, or do a mix of the two.  The event is to recognize Hunger ACTION Month!

Is this event in-person? Yes! GardenShare is looking to have a responsible in-person outdoor event. We encourage everyone to join us in a way that feels most safe to them, be that by wearing a mask or even participating in the virtual 5K option.

Where is the event?  The starting line will be at the Village Park in Canton, NY. If a rain call is made, the rain location will be at Leithead Fieldhouse, St. Lawrence University. Registrants will receive updates the week of the event with location details and notes about weather/rain call.

What if I can't make it to Canton, NY for the event?  No problem!  We are still offering a virtual participation option.  We’ll give a special social media shoutout to the participant joining from farthest away!

How far do I have to go? The run course will be a 5K distance, so 3.1 miles. There's also the 1-mile Veggie Adventure run for kids and families who want to be active together. Participants of all ages can run, walk, or otherwise self-propel on either course!

What is GardenShare and what do they do? GardenShare is a locally led, nonprofit organization working to promote a local food system that ensures food security for all St. Lawrence County residents.  Find out more information at www.gardenshare.org.

What is my registration fee used for? Great news! 100% of your registration fee is a donation to GardenShare! This helps power work and programs like the Local Food Guide, Bonus Bucks Program, Farmers Market Customer Guide, and many other education and outreach programs.

What if the $25 registration fee is too steep for me? We recognize that COVID has placed increased pressures on everyone and as noted above, 100% of your registration fee is a donation to GardenShare. Every bit makes an IMPACT. If you need, use the code take5 for $5 off, take10 for $10 off, or take15 for $15 off your registration.

What more can I do? Great question!  Maybe you have the ability to dig a little deeper and make an additional donation on top of your registration? Or you can become a fundraiser and ask your friends and family to support your effort!

Do I have to be a fundraiser and ask for sponsors?  No!  Our goal is to raise awareness and money to help our community. Your registration fee itself is a donation, so just by signing up and sharing with others, you are helping GardenShare!

I’m not sure I can participate but would still like to make a donation.  Thank you - that’s ok too!  Just click the Donate button - you will see the option to donate to a Fundraiser’s efforts to raise money for GardenShare, or if you scroll down, you can make a donation not tied to any individual fundraiser.  Either way, you will get a receipt emailed to you and your donation is 100% tax deductible.  You will also see instructions for offline donations if you prefer to mail a check.

Should I time myself?  Do I report my results?  Can I share photos?  For our virtual participants, yes, yes and yes!  We would love everyone to share your 5K experience.  Simply go to the Results section of the event page menu and click 'Submit Virtual Results'.  You can select run, walk, or whichever activity you completed!  Or alternatively, email your results or photos to info@gardenshare.org or post them on our Facebook page.  To enter photos directly on the site, go to the Photos section of the menu, enter the participant name, and click 'Start Uploading Photos'.  We can't wait to see!

For our in-person participants, while you can use your own personal watches or other trackers, we will be keeping an overall clock going and tracking results.

Do I get anything for finishing? Yes! In addition to many of the fun activities that will be happening in the park, participants will receive GardenShare stickers and delicious muffins will be available thanks to Big Spoon Kitchen.

A great big THANK YOU from all of us at GardenShare! Together we can take action and make a difference!
