The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is a  Catholic charity providing support to those in need, regardless of their gender, race, age, legal status or religion, at no cost. The volunteers of our 26 local Conferences in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties meet with the disadvantaged in their homes  to provide food, clothing, furniture, appliances, rental and other forms of financial assistance. 

Our volunteer members – known as Vincentians – are women and men who are compelled by our Catholic Christian faith to serve those who are needy and suffering. We believe EVERYONE deserves a fair chance at a bright future, regardless of income or life circumstances.

Vincentian volunteers go in pairs to visit individuals and families in their home after they have called seeking assistance.  During this Home Visit, they develop a real friendship, listen to their concerns, and offer to pray together.  Encouraging our friends-in-need in their homes can be transformative, and this practice of visiting those-in-need has been part of the Society since its inception. 

Vincentians then seek to bring emergency financial assistance to that person in need’s household through assistance with rent, utilities, food, clothing and other means in an effort to prevent homelessness.

Since its beginnings in 2008, the Friends of the Poor® Walk/Run is an annual opportunity for the 26 local Conferences in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties to raise funds and awareness for the Society’s work in their community.   Funds raised by walkers and donors comprise a significant portion of the annual operating budget of each Conference; and 100% of all funds raised stay in the local community to help support and assist those in need in our home town!    From walkers, to coordinators, to corporate sponsors, everyone in town can be involved in making a difference for those living in poverty!

Many families cannot consistently put food on the table. Saint Vincent de Paul Conferences in every community provide both fresh and non-perishable goods in neighborhoods impacted by poverty.   Together, Vincentians work to provide the essential relief they desperately need.
