As public gatherings and social distances continue to be uncertain in the coming months, we are planning a modified, in-person race allowing participants to walk, run, hop, skip, or jump their way along the course safely. Three things are being done to accomplish this:
1) The race will be held at Minto-Brown Island Park, the largest park in Salem, to minimize course overlap and maximize space around participants.
2) The 3k and 5k courses will be two different loops with two different start points. The 5k start point will be at the south end of Parking Lot 3 near the covered picnic area. The 3k start point will be at the north end of Parking Lot 3. Please review the course maps located here on this website. Maps will also be available at the start points for review.
3) The start of the races will be staggered. Participants or participant groups will begin the race at different times within a 15 minute window between 9:30am and 10:30am. During the registration process, you will be asked to choose a 15 minute time window for starting your race. Family and friends in your social group can be in the same start time window, just choose the same window option when registering. Because the races will be staggered, there will be no official timing.
What will be the same about this year's race?
All funds earned will be used to help Salem Harvest gather fresh produce from area farms and backyards that would go to waste and make it available for hungry families in the Willamette Valley. The food harvested would be left in the fields to rot unless it is saved by working quickly. These fruits and vegetables are perfectly tasty and healthy but not usable by growers. So Salem Harvest volunteers Race to the fields to Save the Harvest and get this unused resource into the community.
Event t-shirts will be included with registrations being made before June 28. Entry fees increase and shirts won't be available during registration on June 28 or later. So... register early!
Raffle prizes will be available for participants. Prior to the start of the race, raffle prizes will be randomly chosen and set aside for winning participants at the start/ finish area.
Ima Blueberry will be in attendance. We can't have a Race to Save the Harvest without our favorite celebrity Ima Blueberry cheering everyone on and sharing the goodness of Oregon's favorite fruit. Everyone is encouraged to cheer for participants along the course!
**This race will follow all required public health mandates applicable on the day of the race. If these requirements affect any portion of the event, we will inform registered participants as soon as possible.**
Thank you to all our awesome sponsors listed to the right. Without their support, this run would not be possible.
