Will you fight like Grace?
Grace battled Ewing’s Sarcoma for just over five years. Diagnosed at 15, she underwent more than a year of treatment, only to relapse six months later and begin again. For the rest of her life, she moved from one form of treatment to another until she passed on August 6, 2022.
What stands out most to our family is how she endured. She fought. And she lived well. She never complained, even when the pain was more than any child should ever face. Even when she missed the milestones her peers enjoyed, she chose not to dwell on what she lacked but on what she had. Her celebrations were often small—being grateful to keep a meal down, or the miracle of being released from the hospital just in time to see her sister before she moved to California. Doctors said it wasn’t possible, and then it happened. Grace loved people deeply, and cancer never dimmed that love; if anything, it gave her a wisdom and compassion far beyond her years.
Since her passing, our family has committed to honoring her life by loving and blessing others as much as we can. Lauren’s Run is a new tradition we’ve embraced to honor Grace’s fight and to give back in a way that we know—through personal experience—makes a real impact. This year, we felt led to set a “big, hairy goal,” and we are grateful you’ve joined us in honoring Grace and giving back in a huge way.
When it’s all said and done, GRACE WINS.
