I served in the Navy Reserve for 23 years. In those years, I mobilized twice in support of three contingency efforts. I was gone from home, from my family, my children, for about eight cumulative years. I also stayed home one time as a military spouse during a mobilization, which lasted about a year and a half. I know what the transitions away, and home, look like for both the member and for the family, and I know it sucks... but that's not the only transition there is for our Military members and their families. Retirements, life events, and all other big, and little, changes can, and often will, make for a seemingly insurmountable obstacle to the Military family unit. This is where Heroes in Transition (HIT) comes in. This organization irons flat those obstacles for the service member and their families.

Ruck4HIT is the major fundraiser for this organization. Funds raised will support Heroes In Transition’s mission to assist service members, veterans, and military families in our region through programs that strengthen relationships, build community, offer healing, and empower individuals.

I set a big goal this year. Last year I signed up to fill in for an injured teammate with only 10 days to train, but we still collectively did a terrific job in getting to my last year's goal. I was successful in completing my 31+ miles in approximately 5h13m (moving time). This year, we have time on our side to fundraise, but I know I can't get there without your support. 

This 200+ mile relay will be completed with 7-9 Ruckers carrying weighted rucksacks. My ruck weighs about 27 pounds and is representative of the weight our service members carry long after their transition home. Not all battles are left on the field. I'm here doing the crazy thing to raise money for, and draw attention to the important thing!
