What is The Virtual Symposium?

The 2020 Virtual Symposium is a lightweight, all online, version of our bi-annual educational symposiums for race directors, timers, and nonprofits. The virtual edition will focus on education to help race organizers now, with an emphasis on virtual options and modified events - but with lessons you can carry back to "normal" events as well.

The Symposium will have five main components:

  • General sessions for everyone
  • Breakout sessions for specific types of users
  • A RaceDay Scoring and RaceJoy Certification for timers
  • Round-Table Discussions
  • An interactive morning run with a setup demo and post-run debrief

Registration provides you access to all sessions and round-table discussions. Some sessions overlap; all will be recorded with the recordings shared. Round-Table discussions will not be recorded.

How Does it Work?

The Virtual Symposium will be executed using a mix of GoToWebinar and Zoom technology. General sessions will allow for written questions with responses either from the presenters or via the RunSignup team. Breakout sessions will allow for written questions to RunSignup and chat with all attendees. Round-Table Discussions will be smaller groups, open for conversation between peers.

All registered attendees will recieve a pre-Symposium checklist to trouble-shoot any technology issues and an email each morning with the links to and any sign-in information for all sessions and discussion groups that day. Recordings of each session will be sent out post-Symposium.

Virtual Symposium Agenda

The Virtual Symposium Agenda runs from June 22-June 25, 2020, with sessions starting at 11:00am ET each day and discussions wrapping up between 4:30-5:30pm each day. You are encouraged to attend as much as you can and believe will be useful.

The full agenda is at the link below, with downloadable agendas for each time zone to help everyone keep things straight.

On Monday, discussion groups will be topic-based (you'll pick your topic during registration); on Tuesday, discussion groups will be divided by region to allow for discussion about state permitting considerations and avenues for reaching local officials.

Networking and Happy Hour

We're not going to lie: zoom is never going to replace a Symposium reception, with all the spontaneous conversation, mingling, and catching up with old friends. But we know that connecting is part of why people come to Symposiums, and we want to offer at least a *little* taste of that.

Virtual 5K

The Virtual 5K is more than just a virtual race: it's an opportunity to experience how technology can enhance a virtual run. Get a look at how the virtual run was setup, see it in action by running and/or spectating, and join a debrief on the experience.
