Trail Etiquette
Simple Rules for Enjoying the Trails
We can all do our part to help make the trails more enjoyable for all … below is the recommended trail etiquette while out on the Lansing Region’s trails. Happy Trails!
- Always stay to the right and allow sufficient room for people to pass from
in front or behind. And always pass on the left. This applies to people
passing people, bicycles passing people and bicycles passing bicycles. - When coming up from behind, let people know you are approaching.
“Passing on the left” is an appropriate way to make others aware of your,
or your group’s, presence. Allow sufficient distancing when announcing
your presence so you do not startle the person(s) you are passing. - Cyclists should always yield to runners and walkers, and avoid excess
speed, especially on curves. - Avoid moving or gathering in groups that may impede other trail users.
- Always be aware of what is going on around you. Be especially cautious
when using earbuds. - Motorized vehicles, other than e-bikes, are prohibited on area trails. If you
are on an e-bike, please avoid excess speed. - Dogs love walking on the trails with you, leashed and close by your side.
Always carry bags and pick up dog waste. - Trails are for shared use, so be courteous and avoid littering on the trails.
And it is okay to waive, smile and say “Hello” to people you pass!
