Coach Ray Knight Endowed Scholarship

 

PURPOSE: The Coach Ray Knight Endowed Scholarship and Youth Program seeks to create a lasting tradition of generosity and support within the Central Valley community by offering scholarships and awards that help students reach their academic and athletic goals.

Mission: The mission of the Coach Ray Knight Endowed Scholarship and Youth Program is to create a meaningful impact on the lives of promising student-athletes and the broader running community. 

 

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Coach Ray Knight Endowed Scholarship is pleased to offer scholarships.  Scholarship recipients are cross-country or indoor track and outdoor track runners selected based on the following four criteria:

  1. Need-based:  Financial aid is awarded to help you pay for your higher education. Please tell us about your financial situation and how it affects your ability to pursue education.
  2. Merit-based: Tell us about your achievements and talents, e.g., academic performance, athletic performance, leadership skills, and community involvement. 
  3. Field of Interests: Tell us your reasons for choosing a specific field of study or career path.  Tell us more about the aspects of that field that most fascinate you. 
  4. Cross Country, Track and Field Achievements: Highlight your athlete resume for Cross Country, Indoor track, and Outdoor track achievements.

 

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS

The application process consists of four parts:

  1. Print and complete the PDF application form available below. 
  2. Short Essay written by the applicant, addressing the four criteria listed above.
  3. Letter of Recommendation – a one-page letter from a running coach, sent directly by email or mail.
  4. Proof of Enrollment – an official document from your educational institution confirming your current enrollment status, such as an enrollment verification letter, an official transcript, or a class schedule. 

Applications will be accepted via email or postal mail.  The applicant should submit the Application Form and Short Essay, and the coach should submit the Letter of Recommendation.  Please email: SierraChallengeExpressClub@gmail.com or mail to the address below.

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is July 31st.  

 

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD NOTIFICATION

The Sierra Challenge Express Scholarship Committee will review all completed applications received by the deadline and will award the scholarships to those individuals who are deemed to perform most consistently with the four criteria listed above. 

Multiple winners can come from the same school.

Scholarship winners will be notified shortly after the July 31st deadline.  Awards will be handed out at a future Sierra Challenge Express Breakfast Club meeting.
