I am participating in the Survivors Lead Virtual Challenge to raise awareness about human trafficking and to raise funds for the Coalition to End Human Trafficking in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties. I have committed to walking/hiking/cross-country skiing 50 miles by February 28th. Their goal is to raise $10,000 thorugh this event, and my goal is to raise $2,000 for them. Our society doesn't like to talk about it, but this form of modern slavery really is still happening in our day and age.
In the course of my job, I have attended a number of their seminars and they do a great job in helping to educate the community about how to detect when human trafficking might be happening (including, but not limited to, sex workers, production of pornography, migrant farm workers, massage parlors, nail salons, drug transportation, door-to-door sales, the trafficking of minors for various commercial purposes, etc.), how to approach victims using a harm-reduction strategy (i.e. not treating the victims as criminals), how to empower them to escape the trafficker/abuser, and how to help the survivor start healing so they can be empowered to thrive! Here is their website: https://www.coalitiontoendhumantrafficking.org/
May I count on your support? Thank you, and may God bless you!
