If it hadn’t been for Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, it could have been a very different story our son Chase. This June, he came home from school with what appeared to be a mild illness, but the symptoms worsened – his temperature spiked to 104 – and we rushed him to Maria Fareri Children's Healthcare Services at MidHudson Hospital. They diagnosed him with a severe case of sinusitis and he was rushed by ambulance to Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in Valhalla.
The doctor on all day and night from when we entered the ER discovered that the infection had traveled to Chase’s brain. In fact, they said it was the worst case of this condition they had ever seen. He underwent emergency surgery to remove the infection. In the process, they had to remove a portion of his skull.
The next 30 days were a nightmare for Chase and our entire family. At one point, he couldn’t recognize us and was in so much pain he was thrashing in his bed. Chase also suffered a mini stroke and developed kidney stones that required surgery.
I can’t say enough about the staff at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital during this entire ordeal. The doctors were on top of everything from the second we came into the ER. From the security guards, nurses, doctors to the child life specialists, everyone was so sweet and checked not only on Chase, but our whole family every day.
Today, while Chase continues to receive physical therapy and will need additional surgery, he is thriving and acts like any eight-year-old. I have been so proud of his fighting spirit. He is a real champ!
And so is everyone who works in the Child Life Department at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. That’s why we are asking you to support our fundraiser, so they can help more children like Chase.
Thank you,
Geiser/Pultz Family
