I ride to pay it forward; to provide hope to those with cancer now and for those who will be diagnosed with cancer tomorrow; to fund the breakthrough research that will lead to the next successful treatment, which is so close, so tantalizingly close.

I ride to sneak in one last day of summer; to experience the unexpected; to enjoy the camaraderie of the Breakthrough community along the route (and at the food truck and beer picnic after); to learn of the latest successes and personal triumphs as well as the losses over the past year; to celebrate being cancer-free; to conquer the hill at mile 35; to banish hospice as a viable treatment option.

I ride to thank my healthcare providers and the countless others who work long shifts, nights, and weekends in their tireless efforts to cure cancer and care for those with cancer.

I ride to honor the memory of those who died too soon, before we could find a successful treatment.
