Hark-ALS for Peggy Fort
Funds raised from the Spirit Run for ALS Hope for Peggy Fort will assist Peggy with long-term care as she courageously battles ALS. 100% of all funds raised will go directly to Peggy for much-needed caregivers and other essential equipment and medical expenses.
Peggy has always been a great athlete. Prior to diagnosis, she ran 23 marathons as a charity runner– all of which was to raise money for cancer research. Throughout her career, she raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for many worthwhile charitable organizations and always prioritized giving back to the community.
In 2021, at age 54, Peggy began having difficulty running and walking. After several months of seeing various doctors, her life changed when she was diagnosed with ALS. There is no cure for ALS. It takes away the freedom to walk, talk, run, laugh, hug, eat and breathe.
Despite the diagnosis, Peggy remains courageous and hopeful. As explained by Peggy: “The day I was diagnosed was the shock of my life. I have always been so healthy and full of energy. Life is much more of a challenge now. I have always loved a challenge and am determined not to let ALS define my life.”
For Peggy to continue to fight and have the energy to beat ALS she needs daily in-home caregivers. Unfortunately, this expense is not covered by insurance. Costs for daily caregivers can be $100,000 or more per year. We want to help Peggy pay for her in-home medical care needs and other specialized medical equipment she will need as her ALS disease continues to progress.
