AWD and Adaptive Athletes
The Windsor Locks Lions Club welcomes athletes of all abilities to the Bradley Road Race. Athletes who are affiliated with Achilles International Connecticut Chapter, the Windsor Locks chapter of Special Olympics or Special Olympics Connecticut may contact their organization for information about participating. Those with special needs not affiliated with those organizations may contact our race director to coordinate accommodations.

Athletes with disabilities and adaptive athletes (AWD) may register in competitive divisions that follow the paralympic guidelines. To register for one of the divisions below, visit our online registration site and select 5k AWD or 10K AWD. You will then be able to designate the division in which you will be competing.

Physically Challenged (PC): A physically challenged (PC) athlete for the purposes of this race is defined as any person with a significant and permanent physical or motor deficiency that still allows them to be ambulatory for road racing. Examples of such permanent physical challenges include:

  • partial or complete loss of a lower extremity, such as a Symes or leg amputation; or
  • significant loss of motor function due to stroke; or
  • a serious degenerative neurological condition affecting the extremities such as Multiple Sclerosis.

Awards will be given to the top three athletes in the PC Division if two or more competitors are registered.

Push-Rim Wheelchair: A wheelchair athlete for the purposes of this race is defined as any person with a significant and permanent physical or motor deficiency requiring the use of a push-rim wheelchair (not hand cranks) to compete. Able-bodied individuals may not participate in the Wheelchair Division. Rules and regulations for wheelchairs will be based on the International Paralympic Committee’s guidelines.

Awards will be given to the top three athletes in the Push-Rim Wheelchair Division if two or more competitors are registered.

Hand-Crank/Hand-Cycle Wheelchair: Athletes are invited to participate in the Bradley Road Race. Athletes must wear helmets at all times while on the event course and have an orange visibility flag on a 5’-6’ flexible pole attached to the handcycle at all times while on the event course.

Athletes in the Hand-Crank/Hand-Cycle Division will be timed but no awards will be given for this division.

Visually Impaired: A visually impaired runner must meet the classifications of IBSA Visual Classifications Class B1, B2, B3 and B4. For more information on IBSA Visual Classifications, click here

Awards will be given to the top three athletes in the Visually Impaired Division if two or more are registered.
