The Shiawassee FAN Chapter was initiated in 2019, when a group of concerned community organizers came together in realization of the drug use epidemic in Shiawassee County. Originally, Families Against Narcotics started in 2007, in Macomb County, when Detroit community leaders saw a need to support the efforts of Drug Court in promoting sobriety among its participants. Shiawassee County FAN is the thirteenth chapter of FAN in Michigan. FAN chapters are now growing across the United States from the worsening national opioid epidemic in our youth.
- Shiawassee FAN supports the efforts of Shiawassee Sheriff's Department DEFY, Drug Education for Youth Program in all Shiawassee County's high schools, Human Trafficking Education in all area middle schools, and Prevention Network's Hidden in Plain Sight Trailer for Parental Education. FAN supports the Owosso Police Department's ANGEL Program with the Michigan State Police and FAN’s Hope Not Handcuffs with law enforcement.
