Junaia P. Carter, MD 5K Run / Walk

The Junaia P. Carter, MD 5K was started in 2011 by Southern Illinois University School of Medicine students to commemorate a recent graduate. Dr. Junaia P. Carter walked across the stage at Commencement in May 2010, becoming an official medical doctor. Sadly, she passed away from metastatic breast cancer just a few short months later. Now in its 10th year, and after a break due to COVID-19, Now in its 10th year, and after a break due to COVID-19, SIU School of Medicine’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations, in partnership with the American Medical Association Student Representatives is bringing back this event to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. Proceeds from this event will be donated to breast cancer research at the Simmons Cancer Institute.
