The Junaia P. Carter, MD 5K race for breast cancer research, now in its 10th year, honors a 2010 medical school graduate who passed away from metastatic breast cancer shortly after graduation. This year’s race will occur on the morning of Saturday, October 28th, 2023 and the net proceeds from this event will be donated to breast cancer research at the Simmons Cancer Institute.
In past years, this event has raised over $6,000! This year we have added a Kid’s Fun Run and costume contest (given the timing, just a few days before Halloween) to encourage families to take part in the cause together. Our goal is for this 5K to become an even larger community-wide, family event supporting breast cancer research.
What will a race sponsorship mean for you?
We rely on the financial support of local businesses and people in order to make this event happen for our community and to further research efforts for breast cancer. Publicity for the event will include social media posts, radio/tv advertisements, and visibility within the SIU HealthCare clinics.
