Date: Saturday, June 15, 2024, with a rain date the following day (June 16, 2024)
Start: 8am
Check-in: 6:45am – 7:20am
Location: River Dock (near Arthur Fiedler's head statue by the Hatch Shell on Esplanade)

Fees: $45 before May 1, $55 before May 24, and $65 after that. USMS membership is a requirement, and a one-day membership can be purchased as part of the registration process for $20.
Participant Cap: 220 swimmers
Registration: Sign up quickly, as the swim typically sells out. Signing up early will also mean that you will avoid fee increases. As part of online registration, you have the option to purchase a one-day USMS membership. You MUST choose this option if you are not already a USMS member.
Only pre-registered swimmers are allowed to participate, and we cannot accommodate substitutions. No race day registrations are allowed.
Water temperature:
Water temperature has historically been 70 degrees or above but can vary based on spring air temperatures.
Wet suits are allowed unless the water temperature exceeds 78 degrees (per USMS rule).
This swim is not for novices. It is for experienced open-water swimmers only. At a minimum, you should be able to swim one mile comfortably in under 40 minutes.
Refunds cannot be provided should the event be changed from its primary date to its rain date. Just so you know, refunds, substitutions, deferments, credits, and transfers cannot be provided according to the swimmer's request under any circumstances.
Refunds of 50% of the registration fee will be offered only in the case of a full cancellation of the swim (For example, if, due to unforeseen circumstances, the swim does not take place as in 2024).
As stated above, USMS membership is required. Day-long membership is $20 and can be purchased as part of the online registration.
Age requirement: 18 years minimum
Kayakers and lifeguards will provide support during the race
Fluorescent swim caps will be provided and must be worn for safety reasons
Mandatory Athlete check-in from 6:45 am to 7:20 am. All swimmers will need to bring an ID and USMS membership card if they are already a 2024 members.

The race is dependent on weather conditions and may be postponed or canceled under adverse conditions. Swimmers may encounter random jetsam and flotsam in the river.
In the event of heavy or prolonged rainfall, the swim might be postponed or canceled. In that case, we will send out an e-mail the day before the race and have a notice on this website.
FUN STUFF
We will provide electronic chip timing with immediate, accurate results.
All participants will also receive a free t-shirt with registration and post-race refreshments. Awards will be given in ten-year age increments.
You will also receive bragging rights for having swam a mile in the Charles River!
DIRECTIONS
We suggest you arrive by public transportation, biking or walking. The closest MBTA station is the Charles/MGH Station on the Red Line or Arlington or Copley Station on the Green Line. Volunteers will greet persons crossing the Arthur Fiedler footbridge or the Charles/MGH footbridge. Parking is available at the Boston Common garage for a fee or at nearby meters (note, it may be difficult for swimmers to feed meters given the timing of the event).
