Why We Race

The HoBOOken 5K Halloween Run to End Homelessness is The Hoboken Shelter’s biggest fundraising event of the year!

Founded in 2010, it is Hoboken’s one and only costumed race and one of Hoboken’s largest races!

The Hoboken Shelter transforms lives, sheltering 50 people nightly, serving 530 meals daily, and hosting 1,000 showers weekly for those in need.

Taking a holistic approach to helping people in need, The Hoboken Shelter provides support services such as food, shelter, case management, counseling and job and life skills training to help guests gain employment, achieve independence, and reintegrate into the community.

Right now, the Hoboken Shelter is on the front lines of fighting the Covid-19 crisis. At the Shelter, they are taking important steps to practice social distancing & keep-up the Guests’ hygiene. The Hoboken Shelter remains open. We cannot and will not let those in our community go hungry. For safety’s sake, we made the difficult decision to limit Volunteers in the kitchen & we continue to clean the Shelter in alignment with health guidelines.  Additionally, we have increased & staggered breakfast, lunch, & dinner shifts to limit the number of Guests in the Dining Room at each meal service.  The absence of Volunteers & new kitchen regulations to help prevent the spread of the disease & practice social distancing has placed tremendous pressure on our Staff.  Yet, our staff have faced adversity in the past & they remain committed to helping those in need. You can find 19 ways to help Covid-19 here. You can follow the Hoboken Shelter on Instagram @hoboken_shelter.
