Sheboygan County Food Bank
Sheboygan County Food Bank distributes food through its core programs and in partnership with local food pantries and other organizations to make sure nutritious food reaches thousands of families, seniors, and children.
2023 IMPACT SNAPSHOT
- Food+ for Neighbors distributed 1.1 million pounds of food through Sheboygan Cares Food Pantry and its network of 39 partner organizations, leading to supporting over 5,300 family visits each month. This included delivering 568 supplemental food boxes to homes of low-income seniors, Rohingya refugees, and families with transportation barriers.
- The Community Cafe served 1,275 warm meals to guests every month.
- Food for Thought for Kids provided weekend snacks and meals for 450 vulnerable children during the 2023-2024 school year.
Inflation and reductions in government support are continuing to make it tough for families in 2024. Each month we're tracking an average of nearly 6,000 visits at Sheboygan Cares Food Pantry and other organizations that provide emergency food, which is almost on pace with the height of the pandemic in 2020. Our Community Cafe is also serving an average of 1,500 meals to guests every month. In July alone, 2,300 meals were served – this is almost twice the amount of meals from last year's monthly average.
The Holiday Lights Hunger Run/Walk is Sheboygan County Food Bank's primary, annual fundraiser event that takes place at Making Spirits Bright before it's open to the public for the season. How does it come together? It takes a community of dedicated and generous organizations, businesses, and individuals.
- Making Spirits Bright is the leading Event Sponsor and provides their venue and volunteers who make sure lights and music are operating on the day of the event.
- Community members work with Sheboygan County Food Bank's staff to organize the logistics as a committee throughout the year.
- Local businesses and organizations provide in-kind donations and sponsorships.
- Over 100 volunteers bundle up to help the big day run smoothly!
Sponsorships, registration fees, VIP parking passes, purchased shirts and other gear, and donations for this event directly support Sheboygan County Food Bank's work to make sure food gets into the hands of our neighbors in need. In the first six years of this event, a total of about $320,000 has been raised!
