Course Description and Elevation Profile - Marathon

Time to get your road running shoes and break them in! The marathon course is nestled between the Sacramento Mountains and the glistening gypsum dunes of White Sands National Park, passing by points of Air Force history along the way. It starts and ends at W 11th St. near the Domenici Fitness & Sports Center at an elevation of 4,062 ft. Runners head southeast and turn right onto Forty Niner Avenue. Pass mile marker 3, the road becomes Kelly Road. At the intersection between Douglas Road and WSMR P Rt 9, runners continue north onto WSMR P Rt 9 for a 13-mile out-and-back. During this stretch, enjoy the dunes and the High-speed Test Track from the distance. At mile marker 13, runners reach the highest elevation point at 4,127 ft., do a turnaround, head south on WSMR P Rt 9, turn left onto Douglas Road, and continue the same course as the half marathon runners. At the end of Douglas Road, runners turn right onto Sabre Road, then left onto Creosote Avenue, and right onto Arizona Avenue, passing by Holloman's Heritage Park. Upon passing the park, runners turn right onto David L. Goldfein St. With less than a mile to finish, enjoy the static aircraft display, showcasing Holloman Air Force Base mission. In a typical military cadence, the race ends with a "left, right, left" to closeout its last half mile. The marathon course has been measured by a certified measurer, but it is not certified by USA Track & Field which means it is not a Boston qualifier.
