Race for the Warrior changes race date to August 1

New Date: August 1, 2020

Date: May 7, 2020 Media contact: Eric Flores eflores@unionhomemortgage.com

RACE FOR THE WARRIOR CHANGES DATE, ADAPTS TO COVID-19 CONCERNS The date for the 6th Annual Race for The Warrior (R4TW) has been changed from Saturday, April 25 to Saturday, Aug. 1, based on the Back on Track plan prescribed for the state by Gov. Eric Holcomb.

This 5k/10k run/walk/roll traverses the runway at Fort Wayne International Airport. The event is the NIBCC’s main fundraiser for the year, with proceeds benefitting the Military Support Fund, a program that awards grants to military families experiencing financial emergencies. The pandemic and its respective shutdown will have lasting effects for our military community, making the need for this fundraiser greater now more than ever.

If you registered for Race for the Warrior prior to the date change, your options now include:

• Remaining registered and automatically participating in the race on Saturday, Aug. 1.

• Declining participation but still donating your registration fee to the NIBCC Military Support Fund.

• Receiving a credit toward next year’s Race for the Warrior, scheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2021.

• Participating in a Race for the Warrior 2020 Virtual Race.

Runners that are registered will receive an email with a link to select one of the above choices. If you have additional questions, use our Questions link on the race home page and we will get you the answer.

Participants, sponsors and volunteers are asked to use the hashtag #IAmRaceForTheWarrior on social media.

Festivities include activities for the kids; food and beverages, and a beer after the race for each runner over age 21. Awards will be given for male and female age groups and overall winners.

Each runner will receive an official Race for the Warrior t-shirt and a swag bag provided by our sponsors and community partners. Packet pickup will be the night before the race at Fleet Feet for all runners who have registered early.

“Race for the Warrior will comply with CDC and Gov. Holcomb’s COVID-19 guidelines for events, with runner safety being our top priority,” said event co-chair Eric Flores.
