Dear BTMR Runners,
Many of you have inquired as to the status of our race this year, and we thank you all for your past and present support - this is the first year since the BTMR’s inception that we had sold out!
With the continuing uncertainties of the status of 2020 large-group events, we have made the decision to cancel the Barr Trail Mountain Race on July 19th.
The potential health and safety protocols that may need to be met to be able to hold our event are constantly changing or have not been instituted at this point. The likelihood of those protocols being solidly in place, let alone us being able to meet those protocols in order to successfully hold the race and post-race gathering, is very slim. Additionally, our high school teams who usually operate our aid stations are not permitted to do so this year, leaving us to find other volunteers to staff those stations. With most of our volunteers falling into higher-risk age brackets, this is just not a good option for us. Given all these factors, the BTMR race committee and I came to the conclusion that we could not hold the race with the quality and safety needed for runners and volunteers.
We are offering our registered runners 3 options:
To make your selection, choose an option below.
We hope you will strongly consider option 2, as BTMR (a fundraising, nonprofit race) has always donated all of our race profit at the end of each year’s race to these local entities, who make it possible for us to enjoy and use our beautiful trails. Everybody who is involved with our race is a volunteer, including myself as race director, the ops team, the timing crew, etc. It takes a lot to put together a mountain race, but we do it out of love for you, our community.
Please know that this was not an unemotional decision to make. We were very much looking forward to this year’s event - especially as the new second leg in the Garden to Peak Challenge (formerly the Triple Crown of Running).
We wish you a safe and healthy remainder of 2020, and we hope to see you all next year at BTMR 2021! Stay tuned for the new race date.
