We hope this correspondence finds you and your family well and remaining positive during this most unusual and difficult time in our country.
Your Bridge2Bridge crew has been busy at work strategizing, planning and most importantly giving thoughtful consideration on how to proceed with our 2021 event planned for April.
We shared in your disappointment at the cancellation of our in-person race in 2020 but felt certain we would be back in full force in 2021 as we celebrated our 12th year of this important and beloved event. Instead, we find ourselves still in the throes of this deadly disease and trying our best to navigate how to best keep ourselves, family and friends safe, healthy and moving positively into the new year.
As of today, the Governors’ orders state that “races or marathons may have up to 250 participants, provide staggered starts, must separate participants into groups of 25 or less and spectators should be limited to 2 guests per participant.” While this situation remains fluid and changing almost daily, we all are very aware that it makes planning for anything/everything, very challenging. Thanks to our incredibly loyal supporters, since our inception, B2B remains the most well attended race in Danville, on average hosting 800 participants as well as 175 volunteers each and every year.
Given the size of our race, the logistics of potentially instituting these types of restrictions and most importantly keeping everyone safe, your organizers at B2B have made the difficult decision to offer only a virtual race in 2021.
While it is possible that things improve and we are allowed a less restrictive event, the details and logistics of pivoting a race of this size at the last minute, remain extremely challenging. At this time, we collectively feel this is the most responsible choice that we can make.
We will do our best to make this a FUN event and hope we can count on your participation once again as we continue our mission to support the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association, who needs our help now more than ever.
We were humbled by the virtual turnout in October as we were still able to raise over $29,000 for DPC who have benefitted immensely from our loyal, dedicated and enthusiastic group of followers to whom we are eternally grateful. We love you guys!
Please be patient with us and check in frequently as we are working diligently to keep you informed and up to speed.
Stay tuned for more updates and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued love and support, it doesn’t ever go unnoticed or unappreciated!
What is a Virtual Race? It’s an event where you complete the race on your own time, anywhere you like. It can be on a trail, or a road, track, or even on a treadmill or stationary bike.
