Description
The Heritage Classic is open to all Mayo staff, students, retirees, contractors, volunteers and their families and is the primary fundraiser for the Mayo Clinic Hope Fund, which helps patients and their families cover indirect and unanticipated costs, such as food, lodging and transportation, while receiving care at any Mayo Clinic location.
Due to a trend of lower attendance at the in-person Heritage Classic events held in Arizona, Florida and Rochester, this year’s focus will be on virtual events only. Offering a virtual Heritage Classic is an opportunity for all Mayo Clinic staff and their families to participate from any location.
Events
This years Heritage Classic will offer three virtual events that will take place October 1-31. Registration for all events will remain open through Oct. 31. Due to the timeframe needed to produce and ship event t-shirts, socks and hats- the last day to order was August 9.
Classic 5K: Complete your 3.1 miles anytime and anywhere during the month of October.
Monthlong Marathon: Accumulate your 26.2 miles by walking or running throughout October.
Mayo Minutes Challenge: Aim to accumulate 160 minutes of physical activity each week in October to celebrate Mayo’s 160th anniversary.
Get Connected
Share Your Journey and PhotosJoin the Mayo Clinic Heritage Classic Facebook group and ask questions, share your wins, and your training or event photos. Create a Group or TeamCreate a Group or Team to rally your friends, family and coworkers to join you in one of the 5K events. Walkers and runners who participate with a team will ultimately have a more memorable race experience. Group/Teams can register separately with a Captain creating a group and allowing members to join, or together with multiple registrations in one transaction. Supporting patients who have financial needs
Proceeds from the Heritage Classic events support a great cause: the Mayo Clinic Hope Fund.
The Mayo Clinic Hope Fund is the only fund that helps patients and families cover indirect, unanticipated costs such as food, lodging and transportation while receiving care at any Mayo location.
During planning for the Mayo Clinic Sesquicentennial in 2014, Mayo employees expressed the desire to give back to patients and their families. The Mayo Clinic Hope Fund was created – and named – by Mayo Clinic employees for this purpose.
Requests for assistance from the fund are managed by Medical Social Services staff at all Mayo locations. Funds are distributed to patients at all Mayo Clinic sites. In addition to the real-time financial support, the Hope Fund provides patients and their families with peace of mind – a key aspect in the healing process.
The Heritage Classic is the primary fundraising event for the Hope Fund, with more than $239,000 raised to support our patients.
