Enjoy a flat, scenic course
Every race distance in the Mill Towns Race Series follows a looping course that starts and finishes in Memorial Park in Dundas. The course travels mostly paved trails* along the east and west sides of the Cannon River to and from Northfield, the other "Mill Town." The tree-lined route is flat (elevation gain = 107 ft.) and provides multiple opportunities for your fans to see you - at the start, finish and each loop through Memorial Park, if you're running the marathon or half marathon. The 10K is just one loop of a slightly shorter course.
While we don't have pacers, you can bring your own pacer as we do allow bandits to run with you (at their own risk) for one or two of the 6-mile loops.
Cut-off Times: Runners must be through the last aid station on the course by 2 PM. It is about 2 miles from the finish.
Course records:
- Marathon: Dzmitry Dauhunenka (2:36:55) and Leah Knowles (3:08:32)
- Half Marathon: Paul Ellis (1:18:22) and Janet Smith (1:25:43)
- 10K: Patrick Wehr (00:39:07) and Maria Richert (00:40:22)
(USATF Certification MN24023MAB)
*There is a short section at the start of the loop that is on open road and two points where the course crosses Hester Street in Dundas. By participating, runners assume risk and agree to be alert to vehicles and watch for direction from traffic control volunteers.
Hydration/Aid Stations: There will be water stops at miles 2 and 4 and in Memorial Park (mile 6.5 for half marathon/marathon). Each will have water and Gatorade lemon lime available in cups. Runners can also refill their own hydration bottles to help cut down on waste. Please carry your own nutrition/gels.
Porta-potties: There are bathrooms and a porta-potty at Memorial Park. In addition, there are two porta-potties along the east side of the route, one near the pickleball courts on the north of the marathon/half marathon loop and multiple in Sechler Park on the west side.
A Word About Weather
Minnesota's weather can be unpredictable - 80 degrees one day and 30 and snowing the next. The Mill Towns Race Series will use the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) index, a tool widely used by athletic organizations, the US military, OSHA and others, to evaulate the safety of race-day conditions. This index is a combined measurement of the air temperature, relative humidity, sun and wind. The chart outlines WBGT ranges for three categories of US geographic classifications and the recommended activity modification guidelines. Minnesota falls into category 1.
The National Weather Service in Chanhassen, Minnesota, will be providing us with regular weather forecasts for Dundas using the WBGT index. Race officials reserve the right to alter the event at their descretion based on the WBGT forecasts.
