The West Family's Story
The West Family wants to raise awareness of Veteran suicide. According to the Pentagon, 273 military members committed suicide in 2014. David West, their 23 year old son, was one of those military members.
According to the organization Stop Soldier Suicide, “the risk of suicide is 50% higher for Veterans than for their peers who have not served. The problem is clear: The systems in place aren’t working. Getting help isn’t as easy as it should be – and trying to navigate a complicated maze of organizations and resources can be overwhelming.”
The West Family wants to honor David’s memory by being a part of the solution; by raising awareness; by starting the conversation about options.
The West Family’s share of the net proceeds of this race will be used to support the efforts Stop Soldier Suicide to coordinate and provide a wide range of services for Troops, Veterans and their Families.
St. Michael's All Airborne Chapter
The mission of the St Michael’s All-Airborne Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Association is to provide support and assistance to Paratroopers, their Families and any Veteran in need who fall through the cracks.
In their five year existence, 100% of their fundraising efforts have supported their mission. Most recently, they have filled the gap between what the government provided and the needs of a young 100% disabled 101st Airborne Veteran battling leukemia as a result of exposure to burn pit vapors in Iraq and Afghanistan. Additionally, they assisted with the funding for a life-sustaining transplant for a Veteran’s Spouse. The Chapter also provides many other forms of assistance to our Veterans.
The Chapter’s share of the net proceeds from this race will all be used to continue their support efforts.
