NCPD Police Officer Memorial 5K Run

MONDAY, AUGUST 10th, 2026.
East Meadow, NY 11554 US

COUNTDOWN TO RACE DAY

Race Description

In 1993, Nassau County Police Officer Gary R. Farley died in the line of duty. In his memory, the Nassau Police Running Club began sponsoring an annual 5K to ensure that Officer Farley would always be remembered. The event was originally titled the PO Gary Farley Memorial 5K Run.

In 2011, the Nassau County Police Department tragically lost Police Officer Michael J. Califano and Police Officer Geoffrey J. Breitkopf in the line of duty. The race was renamed the Nassau County Police Department Police Officer Memorial Run to honor Officers Califano and Breitkopf and to remember all of our fallen.

Tragically, since 2011 the Department has continued to lose officers in the line of duty, including PO Charles D. Cole Jr., PO Joseph P. Olivieri Jr., PO Arthur Lopez, PO Peter Martino, Lt. Michael P. Shea, PO Luis A. Palermo Jr., PO Paul J. McCabe, and PO Brian R. Abbondandelo.

To honor the memory of our fallen officers, the Nassau Police Running Club funds scholarships for graduating high school seniors involved in school running clubs. Scholarships are presented to students graduating from the high schools attended by our fallen members (or as selected by the families). The Nassau Police Running Club vows to never forget our fallen.

The race is held at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, New York (start/finish at the Field House, Hempstead Turnpike)
