Sadly, the 2020 CanLake Ultras is canceled. We could not secure the necessary permits soon enough to proceed with the race, even with adjusted race procedures considering COVID restrictions.
Since it is uncertain how long the COVID restrictions will last, we will not offer deferral to the next year's race or transfer to another race.
All the registered participants will be offered the following options:
Please make your decision by the planned race day, October 10, 2020, by replying to this survey or emailing Race Director at CanLake50@gmail.com
Additional race information can be found at http://canlake50.com/.
As you are aware, we live in unprecedented times in 2020 due to the global pandemic. The Race Director and CanLake Ultras parent organization The Greater Rochester Track Club reserves the right to adjust the rules, start times, and anything else required to comply with the most recent issued by the government and to ensure the safety of race participants, volunteers and others involved in the race. Please note that in 2020, canceling the race at the last minute is a possibility. We promise to make our best effort to organize the race in 2020, but it may not be up to us at the end of the day.
All things considering, we are offering an option to participate at the Virtual CanLake Ultras. Virtual races will be scored separately from the regular races.
In 2020, race participants will be required to wear a mask at the start, at the finish, at the aid stations, and while passing other participants.

Virtual races will be scored separately from regular CanLake Ultra races. Once you sign up for the virtual CanLake races, you cannot transfer back to the regular race.
Rules for the virtual CanLake Ultra races:
Virtual race participants will receive the race t-shirt via mail after the race.
Run one big road loop around the most beautiful Finger Lake in Western New York. The course is mostly flat to rolling roads with several major climbs, including locally-famous Bopple Hill.
Run point-to-point over the final 31 miles of the 50 Mile route. With significantly less climbing and descending than the first 19 miles of the 50 Mile route, the 50K is more friendly for first-time ultra runners and a logical step up from the marathon.
Only a virtual MiniCan 25Km will be offered in 2020
Run point-to-point over the final 14.5 miles of the 50 Mile/50 Km route after running short out-and-back starting on and using South Lake road. The time limit is 6 1/2 hours. The minimum average speed to complete the 25Km race is 2.07 miles per hour or 25 minutes per mile. Please note that the 25Km race does not allow pacers.
Having a personal handler at CanLake Ultras is a privilege and perk that we are happy to provide. (For runners that plan to use personal handler at the CanLake Ultras) I accept full responsibility for the actions of the personal handler(s), that personal handler(s) will familiarize themselves with and follow all safety rules outlined in the Race Handbook. Failure to follow safety rules by the personal handler(s) -intentional or unintentional - will result in DISQUALIFICATION of the runner
