Peer-to-Peer Fundraising 101

Peer-to-peer (P2P) fundraising
is a strategy for collecting donations from peers to raise money for a nonprofit organization. These personal campaigns often happen in conjunction with some type of event centered around an endurance activity like running, walking, or cycling. Non-physical activities like reading or meditating can also serve as the foundation of a successful peer-to-peer fundraising campaign that encourages goal setting and continuous engagement. A third theme centers around celebrations. Rather than receive material presents for a birthday or graduation, fundraisers can ask their family and friends to make a charitable donation to their favorite nonprofit organization. Peer-to-peer fundraising is big and here to stay.

Fundraisers can be individuals or teams of people who share a common cause and goal. Peers can be friends, family members, co-workers, fellow students, neighbors, and just about anyone that is part of someone's life and may be interested in helping in the fundraising effort. Whichever side a person is on, each participant in the campaign creates a positive impact on the nonprofit organization much greater than simply making a one-time donation. Just by sharing their fundraising intentions and goal, a supporter can turn one donation into many with little effort.
