The PTI 5k/10k Run on the Runway is a one-of-a-kind chance to run, walk, stroll, or roll on PTI Airport’s 9,000-foot runway. The event includes timed 5k and 10k races on a Certified Course, as well as three (3) untimed participation options: a 5k Walk to Win Against Hunger, a (new for 2027) 1 Mile Fun Run, and a Kids 100-Yard Dash. The course is flat, smooth, and offers close-up runway and airport views that runners can only experience once a year.
The 2027 PTI Run on the Runway is scheduled for Saturday, April 3, 2027. The 10k race starts at 9:00 a.m. The 5k race starts at 9:20 a.m. The 5k Walk to Win Against Hunger starts at 9:25 a.m. The 1-Mile Fun Run starts at 9:45 a.m.. The Kids 100-Yard Dash starts at 10:00 a.m. The event wraps up at 10:30 a.m. with an Awards Presentation.
The race takes place at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina. Participants park off-site and take a shuttle to the runway event area. All participants are asked to be at the parking lot no later than 7:45 a.m. to catch a shuttlebus to the runway.
Everyone is invited. Runners, walkers, strollers, wheelchair athletes, families, corporate teams, first-timers, speedy runners, kids, and “I’m mostly here for the runway selfie” participants are all welcome.
The 2027 event includes the 10k timed run, 5k timed run, 5k Walk to Win Against Hunger, 1 Mile Fun Run, and a Kids 100-Yard Dash.
The current race schedule lists the 10k at 9:00 a.m., the 5k Timed Run at 9:20 a.m., 5k Walk to Win Against Hunger at 9:30 a.m., the 1 Mile Fun Run at 9:45 a.m., and the Kids 100-Yard Dash at 10:00 a.m.
Yes. The Run on the Runway raises funds to fight hunger and support neighbors across the Piedmont Triad. Proceeds benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC, Greensboro Urban Ministry, and Open Door Ministries of High Point.
For 2026, the Run on the Runway raised more than $217,000 for regional food banks. For 2027, the fundraising goal is $220,000.
Absolutely not. The runway has room for every pace. Some participants join every year to achieve a PR, some walk with friends, push a stroller, roll the course, or bring the whole crew for a fun morning that feeds the Triad.

Yes. Race-day registration must be completed online using your own mobile device. Once registration is confirmed, a bib can be assigned. Race shirts are not guaranteed for race-day registrants. If you choose to wait to register, please show up by 7:15 a.m. to ensure you can receive an event bib.
Race-day registration/check-in goes from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. at the event parking lot.
Changes may be available through your Run on the Runway (RunSignUp) account before race day, depending on availability and event capacity. Log in to your registration to check available options or contact the race team for help at runontherunway@gsoair.org. Additional fees may apply.
Please do not give your bib to another participant without completing an official transfer through RunSignup or contacting the race team at runontherunway@gsoair.org. Bibs are tied to emergency information, timing, awards, and results.
No refunds are allowed. This event is a significant fundraiser for Triad-area food banks.
Registration fees are generally not tax-deductible because participants receive race entry and event benefits. Separate donations may be tax-deductible depending on individual circumstances. Please consult your tax advisor.
Yes. The platform provider for the Run on the Runway, RunSignup,com, charges a processing fee during registration similar to a credit card processing fee. The amount may vary slightly by registration amount and cart items.
Yes. The timed 10k and 5k races use tiered pricing, with prices increasing as race day gets closer.
No. The Run on the Runway is held on PTI Airport’s 9,000 foot parallel runway with plenty of room to many participants. Plus, as a significant fundraiser for helping to fight hunger across the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina, we welcome and encourage as many participants as we can.
The timed 10k is the ultimate runway challenge: a timed race on a flat, certified, airport course. It starts at 9:00 a.m.
The timed 5k is a flat, certified race that starts at 9:20 a.m. It is a great option for first-time 5k runners who want an official time, as well as runners chasing a personal best.
Walk to Win Against Hunger is an untimed 5k participation option for those who want the runway experience without race timing. It starts at 9:25 a.m.
The 1 Mile is new for the 2027 PTI 5k/10k Run on the Runway. It is an untimed event that starts at 9:45 a.m. It is a great choice for families, casual walkers, younger participants, or anyone who wants a shorter runway adventure.
The Kids Dash is a 100-yard fun run for children ages 11 and under. It starts at 10:00 a.m.
Kids 100-Yard Dash participants do not receive a custom race shirt with registration, but a shirt may be purchased separately during registration.
No. The 1 Mile Fun Run, 5k Walk to Win Against Hunger, and Kids 100-Yard Dash are untimed. Bibs for those events do not include timing chips. They are a great way to help us raise money to fight hunger in the Triad and have a fun day out on the runway.
Packet pickup is scheduled for Thursday, April 1, 2027, and Friday, April 2, 2027, at PTI Airport, Departure Level, Door 4, 1000 Ted Johnson Pkwy, Greensboro, NC 27409. Free parking is available for packet pickup.

No. There is no race day packet pickup. Registrants can attend one of the two in-person Packet Pickups at at PTI Airport, Departure Level, Door 4, 1000 Ted Johnson Pkwy, Greensboro, NC 27409. Or, if you register before March 1, 2027, you may have your race packet mailed to you. Click here for details.
Yes. Friends and family are welcome to pick up race packets. However, we do not track WHO picks up your packet, so please coordinate with each others to make sure you avoid confusion.
Yes. For participants who register before March 1, 2027, packets can be mailed to the registration address for a $15 fee per registration. Kids 100-Yard Dash registrants can get their packets mailed free with an associated registration for one of the other events.
Packet mailing must be selected during registration by March 1, 2027.

Your packet includes your race bib and race t-shirt (if shirts are still available when you register). Timed 5k and 10k bibs include timing chips.
Free event parking is located at the Truist Leadership Institute, 7701 Airport Center Dr, Greensboro, NC 27409. You must park here to attend the event. Shuttle buses will depart from and return to this parking lot.
No. Participants and volunteers must use the event shuttle from the designated parking area at Truist Leadership Institute at 7701 Airport Center Dr, Greensboro, NC 27409. The only way to access the runway is by shuttle bus from the event parking location.
The shuttle ride is approximately 10-15 minutes.
The first shuttle for runners is scheduled to leave the parking area at 7:30 a.m.
We request that you show up no later than 7:45 a.m., so you have plenty of time to park, get to the shuttle bus at the parking lot and get to the runway for the event. Please allow at least 25-30 minutes for the shuttle process.
Yes. Shuttles continue to run until the end of the event.
Yes. Participants should follow special event signs and police guidance to the designated parking area.
Yes, spectators may ride the shuttle to the event area. Please plan extra time and follow all volunteer and police instructions. Note that pets are strictly prohibited from the event.
The 5k/10k certified course is smooth and flat, with views of the airport and surrounding airfield.
The 5k and 10k courses are certified for race timing.
Yes. The flat, smooth runway surface makes this a great course for runners chasing a personal best.
