Donate to Back The Blue K-9 Force

RexRun For PAWSitivity 2024 is a 5K trail run/walk and family fitness event benefiting Back The Blue K-9 Force, a 501c3 non-profit organization. Their mission is to enhance our community by providing funds for purchasing K-9's, their much-needed protective equipment and medical needs, and for support of school-based therapy dog programs. Established in 2016, they have provided 15 K-9s to five law enforcement departments.

The event star is Rex, a black lab therapy K-9, works with Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officer Deputy John Gray. Rex is our first therapy K-9 therapy officer and is the inspiration for our event. Deputy Gray along with Rex work with children in several schools throughout the Littleton School District. Therapy dogs work primarily with students with special needs and those in crisis. They provide comfort to those who are stressed and dealing with anxiety and depression.

"Mental health is an ongoing concern, particularly with our youth. There is a chemical change in the brain that reduces the stress when people pet and interact with a dog," says Deputy John Gray, "We hope that Rex will help students feel comfortable and safe in schools and bring smiles to their faces."

We now have five therapy K-9's with within three school districts throughout Colorado. Along with Rex, our team includes Riley, Zeke, Bear and Otis. All K-9's are trained and certified in therapy as well as in firearms and explosives detection.

Thank you for your generosity and commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. By contributing, you are directly supporting the needs of the K-9s and their handlers, helping to ensure their success.
