Event History
Steps for Sarcoma was created in 2010 to raise grant funding for sarcoma researchers at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James).
The event was founded by orthopedic surgery specialist Joel Mayerson, MD, along with sarcoma patient Chantil Milam and her husband, Justin. Martha Crist, RN, nursing program manager for musculoskeletal oncology, played a key role in establishing the event and served as event director for many years until she retired.
Since starting as a community-led effort by a dedicated handful of volunteers, Steps for Sarcoma has grown to become a leading OSUCCC – James signature event that grows bigger each year. Today, Steps for Sarcoma is central Ohio’s only sarcoma-focused event of its kind and has raised more than $2.1 million.
