Team ROAR 5K and 1-Mile Walk proceeds will once again be split between two remarkable non-profit organizations. Half will benefit local metastatic breast cancer patients through the Somerset Health Care Foundation. The other 50 percent will benefit METAvivor Research and Support.

Last year, the Donna M. Karlis Memorial Fund donated $48,000 in net proceeds from the inaugural Team ROAR 5K and 1-Mile Walk on Oct. 6 at Duke Island Park in Bridgewater. The fund presented two checks, each for $24,000, on Monday, Nov. 4 to the Steeplechase Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset and to METAvivor Research and Support, Inc. at the RWJUH’s Steeplechase Cancer Center in Somerville, NJ.

The Somerset Health Care Foundation provides funding to the Steeplechase Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. To learn more about ways to give to the Somerset Health Care Foundation, visit

METAvivor is dedicated to providing support for women and men with metastatic breast cancer and funding research to transition MBC from a terminal illness to a controlled, chronic condition. For more information about METAvivor, visit

Team ROAR’s donation will be made available to help patients with MBC, regardless of income or where they are receiving treatment. Funding can include: living expenses, transportation to the Steeplechase Cancer Center at RWJUH Somerset and recovery items such as lymphedema sleeves, wigs, head scarves and post mastectomy undergarments from the Sanofi US Wellness Boutique at the Steeplechase Cancer Center.
