Supporting patients who have financial needs
Proceeds from the Heritage Classic 5K Run-Walk support a great cause: the Mayo Clinic Hope Fund. The Mayo Clinic Hope Fund is the only fund that helps patients and families cover indirect, unanticipated costs such as food, lodging and transportation while receiving care at any Mayo Clinic location.
During planning for the Mayo Clinic Sesquicentennial in 2014, Mayo Clinic employees expressed the desire to give back to patients and their families. The Mayo Clinic Hope Fund was created – and named – by Mayo Clinic employees for this purpose. Requests for assistance from the fund are managed by Medical Social Services staff at all Mayo locations. In addition to the real-time financial support, the Hope Fund provides patients and their families with peace of mind – a key aspect in the healing process.
The Heritage Classic 5K Run/Walk is the leading fundraising event for the Hope Fund, with more than $62,000 raised to support our patients.
