Are you an avid trail runner? Do you feel comfortable running solo over long distances and hilly terrain? Are you passionate about leave-no-trace principles? Then this is the opportunity for you! Big Sur Land Trust is seeking volunteers to sweep flagging ribbons, signs, and any accidentally dropped items from our Race for Open Space courses.
Course sweeps serve as aid station volunteers, and then sweep between 5-15 miles of trail. An orientation will be provided day-of, prior to deployment.
This is a special opportunity to immerse yourself in natural areas usually closed to the public while helping make these incredible race courses a success!
Qualified volunteers are comfortable spending extended time in backcountry wilderness areas, are self-sufficient runners (i.e., who run prepared with their own hydration, nutrition, etc.), and have capacity to run up to 15 miles on hilly terrain. Prior sweep/aid station experience is greatly preferred. Snacks, water, and coffee will be offered prior to deployment. Volunteers will be required to prepare all other supplies and gear they may wish to have in the field (e.g., appropriate trail running footwear, any preferred nutrition, water, hat, etc.).
