Details

As the runners are anxiously awaiting for the start of the race, start line assistants will help direct and organize the runners into waves. Volunteers will also assist the wave sign holders by ensuring the waves of runners move forward towards the start line as the start of the race progresses.

Volunteers will also assist in the set up/take down of the start line barricades and the removal of sponsor banners.

Details

As a member of the start line team, volunteers will hold signs for wave starts along the starting line. Volunteers will also assist the start line assistants by ensuring the waves of runners move forward towards the start line as the start of the race progresses.

Volunteers will also assist in the set up/take down of the start line barricades and the removal of sponsor banners.

Details

As a courtesy to the participants, the event offers gear check service to all registered athletes. Responsibilities of these volunteers include collecting runners' gear bags, ensuring bags are labeled with runners' bib numbers and securely closed. Bags will then be loaded onto vehicles for transport to the recovery area.

Details

Runners need to be well hydrated throughout the race. Volunteers are needed to set-up tables and prepare for water and Skratch electrolyte distribution.They will fill cups and/or fill water bottles for the runners before the start of the race. After cheering on the runners, volunteers will be responsible for cleanup of the area.

Announcer assistants will spot runners' bib numbers, access runners' information and relay their information to the announcer.

Runner assistants will observe runners as they cross the finish line and assist those in need of assistance to sit down or to walk to the medical area. Responsibilities may also include cleaning and sanitizing recovery areas.

Runners need to quickly rehydrate and re-energize after their challenging race. Volunteers will provide hydration, nutrition and congratulatory acknowledgement to runners once they enter the finish area tent.

Details

Once runners exit the finishers tent, this volunteer's responsibility is to ensure that runners do not re-enter the tent. Re-entering will impede runner traffic flow exiting the tent resulting in the compromise of social distancing.

The responsibility of the finish line tent floater includes monitoring and maintaining ice supply, trash cans, perimeter fencing, shower area, etc. The floater will perform additional duties as needed.

As a courtesy to the participants, the event offers gear check to all registered athletes. Runners' gear bags will be transported to the post-race recovery area where volunteers will help unload, organize, and then distribute the bags to the runners after they complete their race.

Details

Radio Status Keeper will be located in the Marathon finish line tent. This role is responsible for communicating on the radio and documenting runner bib numbers based upon their turn around status called in by each aid station.

Street Crossing Guard High Priority

Details

While flaggers maintain the one-way traffic flow on Manitou Ave., volunteer street crossing guards will direct runners and other pedestrians when crossing the street from the finish line to the post recovery area in Soda Springs Park. An additional volunteer will control spectators as they cross the finish line area to observe the incoming runners.

Runners will be looking forward to celebrating their accomplishment with a cold beer. Beer Garden volunteers will be responsible for checking runners' wristbands, checking ID's and assist in distributing beer. Volunteers will also be responsible for take down and clean up of the area.

Details

Located at the base of Pikes Peak on Ruxton Avenue, volunteers will provide hydration as the runners come down the mountain. Enthusiastic encouragement and cheerful support will give the runners energy to complete the last mile to the finish line.

Details

This aid station is located approximately 1.9 trail miles up from the Barr Trail trailhead. All volunteers must be physically capable of hiking up Barr Trail (not the Incline) with a portion of Skratch and associated supplies as well as carrying appropriate personal clothing. Here they will provide hydration and encouragement to the runners. At the end of the day, trash must be carried back down the mountain.

Volunteers will be transported in a vehicle to and from the aid station where they will provide hydration and nutrition, as well as cheerful support for the runners. This aid station is located approximately 5 miles up Barr Trail. Volunteers need to commit to the entire shift.

This aid station is a 6.5 mile hike up Barr Trail from the trailhead. Volunteers must be able to work at high altitude, hike in and out of the aid station as well as be prepared for possible extreme and changing weather conditions. Tasks will include supplying hydration and nutrition for runners as well as showing cheerful support.

Due to time required to set-up and clean up the aid station, volunteers must be fully committed from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening.

This aid station is located at 12,000 feet and three miles from the summit of Pikes Peak. Volunteers must be able to work at high altitude, hike in and out of the aid station, as well as be prepared for possible extreme and changing weather conditions. Tasks will include supplying hydration and nutrition for runners and showing cheerful support.

Due to time required to set-up and clean up the aid station, volunteers must be committed fully from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening.

Details

Volunteers are needed to provide runners with water, Skratch, snack items and to cheer on runners.

This aid station is located approximately 1.3 trail miles down from the Summit, at an elevation of 13,200 feet. All volunteers must be physically capable of hiking down the trail with a portion of food and associated supplies as well as carrying appropriate personal clothing and supplies. Volunteers must also be prepared for possible extreme and changing weather conditions.

At the end of the day, trash and all supplies must be carried back to the Summit. Assistance with hose removal may be requested.

Transportation to the summit is provided (personal vehicles are not allowed to be driven to the summit). Volunteers need to commit to their entire shift.

Experience the thrill of witnessing enthusiastic runners reach the summit and turnaround to head back down the mountain. Volunteers' responsibilities include assisting the aid/water station, supporting runners in need of medical attention, marshal runners needing help in finding the turnaround, and cheering and encouraging runners. Volunteers will set up the aid station area and provide hydration and nutrition for the runners before they begin their descent down the mountain. Transportation to the summit is provided (personal vehicles are not allowed to be driven to the summit).

Since this aid station is located at 14,115 feet elevation, volunteers should be acclimated to the altitude as well as be prepared for possible extreme and changing weather conditions. Volunteers need to commit to the entire shift.

If you possess a cheerful and helpful personality, consider volunteering for merchandise sales. Volunteers will assist customers, re-stock merchandise, and/or staff registers. Parking attendants greet volunteers as they get ready for an exciting day. Parking attendants will direct volunteers to reserved parking sections in the Briarhurst Manor Restaurant parking lot. Traffic control volunteers will help control tourist vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the Cog Railway station area, while the race is in progress. These high priority positions ensure the safety of our runners.

Details

Sherpas will carry equipment to points on the trail starting from the Summit and working down the trail. Volunteers must be in good shape, be able to carry 30 lbs. of equipment, able to hike at high altitude, and must be prepared for extreme conditions.

Volunteers need to commit to the entire shift. Transportation to the summit is provided (personal vehicles are not allowed to be driven to the summit).

Become involved with the backbone of race set up. Volunteers are needed beginning 1 1/2 weeks before race day to pick up and prep supplies and equipment.

- Retrieve, clean and fill water tanks to deliver to aid/water stations

Details

Volunteers will be taken to the top of the Incline where they will carry out the hose lay to the aid/water station, as well as set up the aid/water station. Hiking down the Incline and through wooded areas carrying water hoses is required. Volunteers will also hike down Barr Trail to the aid/water station, with water barrels and supplies.

Volunteers must be in good physical condition and be able to carry 30 lbs.

Details

Volunteers will be working all day at high altitude and therefore, must be in good physical condition. Not only will volunteers be performing various set-up activities as needed, they may be needed to assist at the aid/water station. Tear-down will include picking up water hoses from the Cirque aid/water station and loading water hoses and aid/water station supplies into trucks.

Volunteers must be prepared for weather extremes and need to commit to the entire day.

Post-Race Day Operations - Incline Aid/Water Station

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Volunteers will be transported to the top of the Incline. Here they will hike down the Incline or through wooded areas to pick up, coil and deposit hoses along the Incline. Hoses will then be collected, carried to the top of the Incline and loaded onto trucks to be transported for storage.

Volunteers must be in good physical condition and be able to carry 30 lbs.

Runners' Packets

Packet Pick-Up

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

After setting up the packet pick-up area, volunteers will distribute runners' race bibs and sweat/gear check bags. At the end of the day, the bibs are securely stored and the area is cleaned up.

Additionally, volunteers may be needed to place directional signs, assist runners in looking up their bib numbers, answer questions and provide race information.

Timing

Timing - W's Medium Priority

Details

Timing volunteer will be responsible for monitoring the split timing gear at the "Top of the W's," approximately 3 miles from the start line.

This will require hiking from the start to the split location with a 15lb pack of timing gear, setting it up, and then monitoring it during the event. When complete, you would hike back back down to Manitou.

A brief training session before the race is available to familiarize oneself with the equipment ; otherwise, a full setup manual will be provided.

Timing - No Name Creek Medium Priority

The responsibilities of this volunteer is to setup and manage the timing equipment at the No Name aid/water station.

Timing - A-Frame High Priority

Details

Timing volunteer will be responsible for monitoring the split timing gear at A-Frame, approximately 3 miles from the summit.

This will require hiking down from the summit with a 20lb pack of timing gear, setting it up, and then monitoring it during the event. When complete, you would hike out with the A-Frame aid station to Bob's road for transportation back down to Manitou.

A brief training session before the race is available to familiarize oneself with the equipment ; otherwise, a full setup manual will be provided.

Details

Setup the split timing gear at the "One Mile to Go" sign, approximately 1 mile from the summit. This will involve walking downhill from the summit to the timing location with a 20lb backpack of timing gear, setting it up, and then taking it back up again.

A 30-45 minute training session a week before the race is highly recommended for folks who have not done this before.
