Deliver Race Packets to Schools

Details

Need 1-3 people to take early school registrants' race packets (they will be boxed and labeled) to the participating School Challenge schools. This task needs to be completed on the morning of Tuesday, April 18 so that schools have sufficient time to distribute their race packets to students & families.

Location

Pick up is at 936 Walnut Road and can be done Monday evening or Tuesday morning. Distribution is to the public and private schools of Frankfort/Franklin County.

Mile Markers Set Up

Chute Workers

Set up Pro.Active Tent and race map. Have maps of the route and volunteer locations. Spot for runners to leave valuables. Will need to always have at least 1, preferably 2 volunteers at the station at all times until race is over and all items left have been picked up. Keep bib number of person dropping off stuff, pin to items for identification.

Water Station # 1

Details

Set up and man the midway water station. Will need to have 3-4 long tables, 8-10 large coolers of water OR FPB Water Monster, and 6 oz paper cups. Job is to pass out water or other hydration fluid to the runners as they pass by. If set up is on Capital Avenue, pass water out to runners both coming and going. If it's behind the Capitol (near a water hydrant that would be used to fill the Water Monster), then runners will only pass by once.

In the middle of Capital Avenue, at the approximate juncture of Capital and Todd Street OR behind the Capitol, by the east parking lot.

Water Station # 2 Finish Line

Details

Volunteers will set up and distribute water bottles at the finish line to the runners as they finish the race. Will return left over water bottles to a predetermined location after the race. OR Fill water cups from the FPB Water Monster and pass out to runners/walkers as they finish the race.

Set up with be about 50 yards from the final area of the finish line chute.

Lead Cyclist

Details

Cyclist will ride the course to make sure route is correctly blocked (in front of Capital Building, not around it). Cyclist will lead front runners from start to finish until the end of the race. After first runner comes in, cyclist will circle back on the route to continue leading runners in. Cyclist will wear a helmet at all times.

Medic to Follow Behind Participants

Details

A qualified medic to follow 5K participants, preferably in a golf cart or gator. Provides assistance as needed along the route in case of injury or emergency.

Race starting line (corner of Broadway & St Clair), will begin behind all runners/walkers and follow until last participant crosses the finish line.

Start/Finish Line Safety Workers

Details

Primary job is to ensure safety of both runners and participants. Make sure race spectators stay off the race course. Assist people who need to cross Broadway so that they don't interfere with runners coming in toward the finish line. Cheer on the runners as able. Also keep spectators from blocking video at finish line. Encourage runners to stay single file and continue walking through entire chute.

This intersection is very important in that the fastest runners will be coming BACK this direction as the walkers and slower runners will be coming up for the first time. So that there isn't a clashing of coming/going participants, Volunteers in this section need to be able to keep the people coming up from Main St to Capital Avenue to the RIGHT, so that the runners coming from Capital Ave to Main can run unencumbered on the LEFT.
