Details

In many cases up to and including Race Week, we determine that we are short handed in certain volunteer areas and need to shift people around to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for our runners, spectators and volunteers. If you have no preference on where you may be assigned and are willing to fill in where we need you on Friday at the Expo and/or Race Day (Saturday), please select this volunteer task. The time listed is approximate, and you will be notified prior to Expo/Race Day of the area to which you've been assigned and the time needed.

Please note: all Race Day volunteer positions have a start time of between 5:00am and 7:30am and may require heavy lifting and working outside. If you have any restrictions, please list them in the comments on your registration. We appreciate your help and thank you for volunteering.

Aid Station volunteers move cases of water, setup tables, fill cups, distribute water, Gatorade and ice to participants and provide encouragement! Volunteers are also responsible to tear down the tables, gather supplies and clean up the area when finished. Clean up area includes surrounding area - any where the participants may have dropped cups, trash, etc. Volunteers are expected to be able to handle physical tasks listed above (or additional as needed) and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Aid Station is located on Market Street - south of 746 Market Street and will support both the 2 mile location and 4 mile location

Event Day - Packet Pickup Medium Priority

Packet Pickup volunteers will be assisting race participants in distributing participant bibs and t-shirts.
In addition to distribution of bibs and t-shirts , volunteers will assist with the setup, lifting and moving boxes and t-shirts, and cleanup of area at the end of the event. Must be able to stand and lift 20 lbs. If you are unable to stand, please indicate in the comments section and an appropriate task will be determined.

Event Day - Gear Check Medium Priority

Details

Gear Check volunteers will assist race participants in checking their gear (dry clothes and personal items) on race morning. Gear is organized by event and bib number. Volunteers must be detail oriented, physically be able to stand, lift boxes up to 20 lbs, have customer service skills. Participants will return have completing their event to retrieve their gear. It is important the participants receive their gear in an efficient manner.

Volunteers in this area will assist participants with changing events, addressing exceptions, and resolving issues. Participants needing assistance race morning will be anxious to get the information updated and changed so that they don't miss the start time of their event. Volunteers must have strong customer service skills, attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.

Volunteers in this area provide information and directions to event participants, volunteers, and spectators. The Information Booth serves as a location for lost/found and lost child situations and has an attending medical responder on site. *** Event Information volunteers should be familiar with downtown Grand Rapids, must have a cell phone, and be able to easily give directions. Volunteers must be detail oriented, physically be able to stand, lift boxes up to 20 lbs, and have good customer service skills Tasks may include (but not limited to) setup/teardown of tables, banners, trash management, etc.

Volunteers are expected to be able to handle physical tasks listed above (or additional as needed) and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Volunteers may also need to assist with participants seeking medical attention/directing to medical staff. Volunteers must be able to speak clearly, loudly and assertively and also listen to direction provided by police and security staff if needed.

Volunteers in this area prepare and distribute food and drinks to the participants after they finish their events. Preparation includes (but not limited to) setting tables, moving cases of water, cutting fruit and stocking tables, moving fruit from prep tent to distribution tent, mixing Gatorade and handing out to participants, and assisting with Chocolate Milk distribution, managing trash and recycling, . In addition, volunteers will assist in cleanup throughout their shift that includes cleaning and drying coolers, food containers. trash cleanup. Volunteers are expected to be able to handle physical tasks listed above (or additional as needed) and be able to lift up to 50 pounds

Volunteers in this area perform physical set-up of the registration area , then welcome event participants, providing information and assistance to participants registering for the upcoming events data entry on laptop computers, distribute bibs and t-shirts, additional duties include setup and tear down of the tables and chairs, setting out t-shirts and keeping bibs organized. Volunteers must be detail oriented, physically be able to stand or sit for long periods of time, lift boxes up to 20 lbs, and have good customer service skills.

Volunteers in this area will be responsible for table setup, packing pre-packaged food items into bags for each event (25K, 10K, 5K and 5K) for distribution to participants race morning. This task helps the Saturday morning crew get a jump start for the morning rush as participants begin to finish. Volunteers are expected to be able to handle physical tasks listed (or additional as needed) and be able to lift up to 50 pounds

Course Cone Crew will be responsible for setting cones on the Fulton Street Bridge to guide participants in the correct direction of their race course. Cone Crew will also stay stationed along the event course to help direct participants ensuring that they do not leave the official event route.
