King & Queen Competition
⚡️ What’s New for 2026?
We are bringing the heat with a more efficient, rapid-update scoring system with updates within 2 weeks after each of the races takes place
- Sign Up to Compete! It is FREE to be included with your SFTC Membership! All you have to do is send an email to our K&Q Coordinator (kq.sftc@gmail.com) to be included. If you completed the series last year, you will be automatically included, but everyone else needs to sign up!
- All SFTC-Owned Races Now Included: Every single SFTC-owned race is now part of the K&Q circuit! We do have several trail races, so for these races our course-measurer/ certifier will make all possible efforts to provide accurate mileage to allow accuracy of 10k normalized times for these races.
- The "Wild Card" Power Play: Want to race a local favorite or a certified course outside the area? You can now use two "Wild Card" races of your choice to count toward your series total!
- Note: Just make sure the course is USATF-certified and you submit your results to the K&Q Coordinator within 2 weeks of crossing the finish line.
🎯 The Mission
The King & Queen series is built on three pillars of excellence:
- Year Long Competition: A season-long battle standardized for distance and age.
- Top-Tier Races: Recognize the races in our area which meet or exceed basic criteria.
- Community Impact: Fueling our club through the power of volunteering.
👑 How to Qualify
To earn your spot on the leaderboard and qualify for the year-end awards, you must:
- Run 6 K&Q Races (totalling at least 25 miles). At least 4 of the races must be SFTC-owned and 2 wild cards can be used!
- Earn 5 Volunteer Points by supporting at SFTC-owned or timed events, along with other volunteer opportunities listed in the Volunteer Points section of our website.
- Show Up in Person! Virtual races are not included
📊 The Scoring: Age-Graded Glory
We use the latest 2023 WMA World Masters Athletics tables to level the playing field. All races are first age-graded and then 10K-normalized. This means a 60-year-old and a 20-year-old are in a direct head-to-head battle for the top spot! Your score is the average of your best 6 races (minimum 25 total miles
🏆 The Hardware
The glory culminates at our Annual SFTC Awards Banquet, where we crown the best of the best:
- Top 3 Overall: The fastest three age-graded men and women in the club.
- Age Group Royalty: Awards for the top 3 finishers in every 5 year age bracket (from 15 to 85+).
- Mr. & Ms. Mileage: A special honor for the true road warriors who rack up the most miles in SFTC-owned races! No wild card races are included in the Mr. and Mrs. Miles competition.
