The First Day 5K course winds through Cane Bay Plantation in Summerville, SC, passing neighborhood ponds and green spaces along the way. The route begins in front of Cane Bay Elementary School before looping through the surrounding community on the Cane Bay Trail and returning for a fast, spectator-friendly finish. This course is mostly flat Lowcountry terrain, and is welcoming to runners and walkers of all abilities. Please see the Course Map for more information.
Absolutely! Participants of all levels are welcome and encouraged to participate in the First Day 5K. The course is mostly on the Cane Bay Trail, so it’s perfect for runners and walkers and everyone in between.
Yes, strollers are welcome. For everyone's safety, participants with strollers may be asked to begin toward the back of the starting area and remain aware of those around them.
In the interest of everyone’s comfort and safety, dogs are not allowed on course. You’re welcome to bring your well-behaved dog to the First Day 5K but we respectfully ask that they stay back at the start/finish line with a friend or family member.

Yes, participants are welcome to wear headphones/earbuds on course; however, we ask that you refrain from wearing noise-cancelling headphones as a matter of safety.
Early on in the course, participants cross, and then run NW on the Nexton Parkway Extension, before turning right on Koban Dori Rd. Police officers will be staged at that first crosswalk as well as at Koban Dori Rd. They will temporarily stop vehicle traffic until all participants have turned off of Nexton Parkway Extension. The rest of the First Day 5K course is on the Cane Bay Trail, which will not be closed to public use; however, we will have additional police officers staged at key intersections to ensure the safety of all participants.
