The Verona Ice Arena (VIA) is expanding to a dual-arena facility and began a capital campaign "Ice for Kids of All Ages" in 2022. The expansion of VIA will cost $8 Million and will support the rise in girls' hockey and the growth of Dane County.
In 2021, the Verona Wildcats Youth Hockey Association (VWYHA) enrolled over 300 skaters from kindergarten through 8th Grade. The Dane County Learn to Skate Program (DCLS) enrolls around 500 skaters from 2 years old to 5th grade. The DCLS runs 4-5 sessions a year, with approximately 100 kids per session and is sold out at least a month in advance due to limitation of ice. The rink also supports the Verona Area High School hockey team and gym classes.
Verona continues to expand, and the building erected to support this community no longer can. Girl’s teams are continuing to expand and need a permanent home. They have been shuffled all over Dane County. With this additional rink, Verona could be home to the girl’s high school hockey team and youth Maverick’s programs. There are numerous other possibilities including expansion of figure skating, a 2nd boy’s high school hockey team, box lacrosse, and events in the open mezzanine area.
