Race History
Double Trouble 5K & 10K is hosted by the Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers (LGRAW). Since its debut in 2000, the race has grown into a popular North Texas tradition, bringing together runners, walkers, volunteers, and spectators for a unique racing experience.
The inaugural Double Trouble 5K & 10K was held on October 14, 2000, and attracted 200 participants. Among them, 29 runners accepted the “Double Trouble” challenge, completing both the 5K and 10K races on the same day.

Interesting Notes:
2025 – New Lake Grapevinne Runner and Walkers (LGRAW) start- and finish-line feather flags are introduced. As well as new IPICO timing mats and Super Elite timing boxes.

Interesting Notes:
- 2024 – The event was nominated for the Southlake Style Readers’ Choice Awards and was recognized as a finalist.
- 2023 – Race Day Scoring was introduced, allowing race results to be published in real time on the event website and eliminating the need for printed paper results.
- 2022 – Race Day Scoring enabled combined event times to be calculated and published for participants completing both the 5K and 10K races as part of the Double Trouble challenge.
- 2021 – The event returned to its traditional format following the pandemic, featuring newly designed racecourses. Event photos taken by Race Photo Network.
- 2020 – Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was modified and limited to 100 LGRAW members. A special Double Trouble 1-Mile and 5K event was held in place of the traditional race format.

Interesting Notes:
- 2019 – The event resumed after a one-year hiatus, attracting 350 registered participants on an unusually warm race day.
- 2018 – No event was held following a decision by the LGRAW Board of Directors. The approval and construction of the new Grapevine Softball Complex impacted the racecourse, parking areas, and other event operations.
- 2017 – The 10K race was designated as the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Texas State Championship and
- and official race photography was provided by Your Sports Image, an eight-year partnership that began in 2009 continuing through 2017.
- 2016 – The 5K race was designated as the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Texas State Championship.
- 2015 – The race served as the goal event for the Couch to 5K (C25K) training program in 2014, 2015, and 2016.

Interesting Notes:
- 2014 – A record 638 participants registered for the event, including 359 in the 5K and 279 in the 10K. A total of 129 runners completed both races as part of the Double Trouble challenge.
- 2013 – Registration for the event transitioned to RunSignUp, streamlining the online registration process. The race was also featured in the final printed edition of FOOTPRINT, which transitioned to a digital-only publication beginning in 2014.
- 2012 – With 471 registered participants, Double Trouble became the largest event in its history to date.
- 2011 – Walker participation increased significantly, due in part to the success of the Weight Watchers® Walk-It Challenge 5K held earlier that year.
- 2010 – The 10K race was designated as the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Texas State Championship.

Intersting Notes:
- 2009 – The event introduced the IPICO timing system and The Race Director race management software, enabling both chip-time and gun-time results. The 5K and 10K races were also designated as Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Texas State Championships. Official race photography was provided by Your Sports Image, which served as the event photographer from 2009 through 2015.
- 2007 – Andrea Jarzombek set women's overall course records in both the 5K (17:14) and 10K (35:45), achieving a combined Double Trouble time of 52:59.
- 2006 – The 10K race was designated as the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Texas State Championship.
- 2005 – Members of the Lake Cities Track Club participated in the event for the second consecutive year.

Intersting Notes:
- 2003 – A special 5-mile event featuring both road and cross-country racing was held in November, replacing the traditional October Double Trouble 5K and 10K.
- 2002 – Continuing a longstanding tradition, the event made a charitable donation to Parkland Hospital’s Camp I-Thonka-Chi, a camp for childhood burn survivors.
- 2001 – Volunteers rallied to clear debris from the racecourse after a severe thunderstorm struck the area the day before the event, allowing the race to proceed as scheduled
