1. What is the Haven Midwifery Center 5K? The Haven Midwifery Center 5K is a fundraising event that occurs during Birth Center week and supports Haven Midwifery Collective mission to provide comprehensive midwifery care in our birth center. The event includes a 5K run/walk in Brooklyn, NY.

2. How can I sign up to volunteer? You can sign up to volunteer by visiting our volunteer registration page on RunSignup: Volunteer Sign-Up (https://runsignup.com/Race/Volunteer/NY/Brooklyn/HavenMC5K).

3. What are the volunteer roles available? Volunteer roles include:

  • Registration and Check-In
  • Water Station Attendants
  • Course Marshals
  • Start/Finish Line Assistants
  • Setup and Breakdown Crew
  • First Aid Station Support

4. What are the requirements to volunteer? Volunteers should be at least 16 years old. Those under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No prior experience is necessary, but enthusiasm and a willingness to help are essential!

5. What is the time commitment for volunteers? Most volunteer shifts are between 3-4 hours long. The event typically starts early in the morning, so volunteers are usually needed from around 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM, depending on their specific role.

6. Where do I report on the day of the event? Volunteers should report to the Volunteer Check-In area, which will be clearly marked near the event start/finish line. Specific instructions and a map will be provided via email before the event.

7. Will there be training or orientation for volunteers? Yes, there will be a brief training session event on September 7 in Prospect Park at 9 am. Details about the training will be sent to you via email after you sign up.

8. What should I wear and bring? Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for walking or standing for several hours. We recommend dressing in layers and bringing a hat and sunscreen. Water and snacks will be provided, but you may want to bring a reusable water bottle.

9. Will food and beverages be provided for volunteers? Yes, light refreshments and water will be available for all volunteers throughout the event.

10. Can I volunteer with friends or family? Absolutely! We encourage groups to volunteer together. Please indicate on your registration form if you are volunteering with others so we can try to assign you together.

11. What happens if it rains? The event will take place rain or shine. Please come prepared for the weather. In the event of severe weather, we will communicate any changes or cancellations via email and social media.

12. How will volunteering benefit me? Volunteering at the Haven Midwifery Center 5K is a great way to support a worthy cause, gain event experience, meet new people, and enjoy a fun and rewarding day. Plus, you'll receive a volunteer t-shirt as a token of our appreciation!
