Registration Fees

$25 per person for 5k race if registered by April 1, 2017.
$35 per person for 5k race registration on April 2 through race day, April 29, 2017, and accepted at packet pick-up and late registration.
$15 5k registration for all students (up to age 24).
$8 Fun Run (kids races) for children ages 3-9. Distance depends on age group, divided by heats.
Sorry, no refunds or transfers. In case of severe weather, race directors reserve the right to cancel the race without refund.

5k Run/Walk

8:30 a.m.
The USATF certified 5k course runs through Calvin's scenic, relatively flat college campus. The 5k race will begin with the handcycle racers starting just before the runners, and walkers starting just behind the runners. Strollers are welcome, but must stay at the back of the race. Bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards and animals are not allowed on the course. Strollers may enter the Hoogenboom Gym using the handcycle entrance in Lot 6. All participants must be registered and have a race number to participate.

Handcycle Division

8:19 a.m.
Handcycle racers will start just before runners. Handcycle racers must yield to runners in the event that the runners catch up with handcycle racers. Handcyclists, please use the Lake Drive entrance when entering the campus. Handcyclists may enter the Hoogenboom Gym using the handcycle entrance in Lot 6.

Karen Muyskens Family Fun Run (kids races)

9:15 a.m.
The Fun Run will be held on the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center’s indoor Sturrus Track and is for children ages 3-9.
Races are divided by age groups. Distances range from 100 yards to a quarter mile.
Youth participants will receive a short-sleeved cotton T-shirt and finisher ribbon. Fun Run participants may be included on a School Challenge team.
*$8 per child
*Parents may accompany very young children (no registration needed for parents)

Virtual Race

Those wishing to participate in the Spring Classic but cannot run on Calvin’s campus on the morning of Saturday, April 29, 2017, can still register for the race and run a 5k wherever they happen to be during the month of April. By registering and then sending in the details of their run (day, location, finishing time) and a picture to 5k@calvin.edu, the participant will be eligible for prizes in the “Virtual Race” category. Last year, there were entries from Michigan, Kansas, Washington and the African country of Burundi.

 

Shirts

5k participants will receive a short-sleeved Dri-Fit T-shirt to commemorate your achievement. You must register by 5 p.m. on April 1, 2017, to reserve your shirt size. If you upgrade to a long-sleeved Dri-Fit shirt, you will not receive an additional short-sleeved Dri-Fit T-shirt. Each participant will receive only one race shirt.


For registrations April 2, 2017, and after, shirt sizes are available at packet pick-up on a first-come, first-served basis. Please come to packet pick-up early for the best selection of sizes. Shirts are youth and unisex (men's) sizes. If you upgrade to a long-sleeved 5k Dri-Fit shirt, you will not receive an additional short-sleeved Dri-Fit T-shirt. Each participant will receive only one race shirt.

Fun Run (kids races) children receive a short-sleeved cotton T-shirt.

Striders Corporate Challenge

Build a team and promote fitness and fun with your co-workers!
Register for the 5k Spring Classic with four or more runners from your workplace.
The team with the lowest score (determined by cross country scoring) wins $250 and recognition at the awards ceremony!
Registration and fees must be received by April 21, 2017.

D&W School Challenge

The D&W School Challenge is a community-building contest that promotes fitness at your school. Students, teachers, parents, grandparents and friends may all be included on your school's team. The 5k student entry fee is $15. Registrations must be received by April 21, 2017, to count toward the School Challenge. President's Shoe Challenge

Calvin faculty, student employees and staff, here is your chance to build departmental pride and a sense of team spirit, while competing for the illustrious President’s Shoe Trophy. Build a team of 4 or more colleagues. Teams must consist of at least 3 Calvin faculty or staff; department student workers and immediate household family members may also compete on your team. Registrations must be received by April 21, 2017, to count toward the President's Shoe Challenge.

Post-Race Party

The Post-Race Party will be held in the Hoogenboom Health and Recreation Center inside the Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex.
Participants are invited to enjoy post-race refreshments.
All race participants present at the awards ceremony are eligible for drawings.

Awards will be given to the overall male and female 5k runners as well as the top three male and female 5k runners in each of the following age categories:

10 and under,

20-24,
25-29,
30-34,
35-39,
40-44,
45-49,
50-54,
55-59,
60-64,

75-79 and
80 and over.
