Please first report to the Volunteer Room, Hoogenboom Classroom 204 (classroom behind the TV in the Hoogenboom lobby), to get your free shirt, volunteer lanyard, refreshments and your specific assignment before proceeding to the Hoogenboom gym. You must be in the Hoogenboom gym prepared for a mandatory training with Classic Race Management at 6:45 a.m. Please be on time! Packet pick-up begins promptly at 7:00 a.m. You will be working in pairs handing out shirts and bibs to runners. Additional instruction will provided on race morning.

Course Crew High Priority

The race will happen rain or shine, so please dress for the weather. Please first report to the Volunteer Room, Hoogenboom Classroom 204 (classroom behind the TV in the Hoogenboom lobby), to get your free shirt, volunteer lanyard, refreshments and your specific location assignment. Please check in no later than 7:30 a.m. so you will have time to get to your location by 8:10 a.m. If you would like a ride to your post, golf cart drivers can bring you to your location. Meet at the Spoelhof Fieldhouse circle drive for a ride.
At 8:15 a.m., pull your barricade or cones into place and stop all vehicles attempting to drive on the course. Kindly but firmly explain that a race is in progress and motorists will have to wait in order to ensure a safe course for the runners. We'll provide you with a campus map to explain detours to drivers, where applicable. Be sure to cheer on the runners as they go by! A golf cart will follow the last walker and release you from your post.

Post-Race Course and Hoogenboom Gym Clean-Up High Priority

Please first report to the Volunteer Room, Hoogenboom Classroom 204 (classroom behind the TV in the Hoogenboom lobby), to get your free shirt, volunteer lanyard and refreshments by 8:45 a.m. You will assist in re-opening the roads following the last runner and releasing the volunteers. You will also clean-up the water tables, throw leftover cups away and bring large water containers to the Calvin van parked in the SFC loading area. Move all barricades to the side of the road. (Calvin sawhorse barricades will be picked up by the Physical Plant crew.) Following the post-race party, you will load up all items (posters, snacks, banners, left-over awards and shirts, etc.) into the van and unload at the Youngsma Center.

Hold Pace Sign/Finish Line Assistant High Priority

Please first report to the Volunteer Room, Hoogenboom Classroom 204 (classroom behind the TV in the Hoogenboom lobby), to get your free shirt, volunteer lanyard and refreshments, then head to the starting line. You will be holding a sign (“7 minute pace”, “8 minute pace”, etc.) in a designated spot right before the starting line so that runners/walkers know where to line up before the race begins. Before the race begins, make sure any cones blocking the roadway are removed. Immediately after the race starts be ready to help at the Finish Line and assist the emcee, who will be announcing names as runners and walkers finish.

Fun Run Crew High Priority

Please report to Hoogenboom 204 at 7:45 a.m. to pick up your shirt, volunteer lanyard and refreshments. From 8:00 - 9:05 a.m., you will engage children in physical education play activities in the gym (parachute, rings, etc.) At 9:15 a.m., the Fun Run begins. Children will be aged 3-9 and will be divided into heats. Race distances range from 100 yards to 1/2 mile. All children receive a finisher ribbon.

Then find the Handcycle packet pick-up table in the gym. You will help the handcycle racers collect their registration packets and walk them to their place at their starting line for the 8:19 a.m. race start time. We will need 1 person inside at the table, 1 person outside directing handcycle racers to the registration table and 1 person assisting handcycle racers to their starting line.

Course Water Table

Please first report to the Volunteer Room, Hoogenboom Classroom 204 (classroom behind the TV in the Hoogenboom lobby), to get your free shirt, volunteer lanyard and refreshments. Then either proceed to the tables that will be set up on the side of the road near the Beets-Veenstra dorm or south of the west entrance to the Hoogenboom gym. Cups and water jugs will be provided. Please pre-fill as many cups as possible so that you are ready when the runners come by just after 8:30 a.m. Competitive runners will not take any water, but young children and walkers will want water. Please stay until the last walker has gone by. Then pick up the used cups and put in the trash can that will be set near the tables. The large water jugs will be collected after the race.
